Do I need to plug gaps in one go?
I know time is fast running out. I have a few gaps that I intend to fill before the deadline. If I fill half of them now, will I be able to fill the rest in a month's time (still before the deadline) or does it need to be done all in one go?Also, is there a way to select which years that I want to plug? The options that I…

Ebay selling and class 2 contributions
Due to sales in excess of the £1000 allowance online, I have applied for sole trader status with HMRC. I sell approximately £2k to £3k per annum. Whilst doing so, I noticed that I also applied for class 2 NI contributions, which as far as I can see is not compulsory. My question is whether is is worth paying this reduced…

Gov.uk pension phone line repeatedly cuts out
Spent over two hours on hold to clearly understaffed gov.uk pension line this morning. Three times I eventually got through and as soon as someone spoke to me, the line cut out. My phone is on the table in front of me, untouched, so it is their fault. Are other people experiencing this? I am unable to apply for my (2-years…

CF83 form response delay
Hi all My partner and I lived in Germany from 2007 - 2015 and he wants to pay voluntary NICs. He filled out a CF83 form and posted it in May 2024 and expected a 6 week wait to receive a letter with a table of payment amounts. He never received anything so called in October 2024 and they sent out seemingly the same form…

Speaking to someone at HMRC
We live overseas and my wife needs to find out her NI number so she can add voluntary contribution to top up her state pension by the April deadline. She does not know her NI number and the automation on HMRC website needs her postcode which she does not know from 40 years ago. We've written to them 2 months ago but no…

NI credits for years I wasn't working or claiming benefits
Background: I retired from work in 2015 when I was 62. I immediately put a DB pension into payment and also started drawing down from a SIPP. In June 2018 I started receiving my State Pension, which was in excess of whatever the full payment was at the time. All good. Yesterday I was poking around in my Personal Tax…
