Aviva shares - cancellation / tender of preference shares
Hi there, Newbie here. My elderly relative has a few shares in Aviva. They've asked me what this letter means. I *think* I know, but I admit I find the letter impenetrable, and would like to be confident when I explain it to them. Can anyone help translate the attached into layman's terms please? Many thanks.

Scottish Widow Pension
I have a Scottish Widows (SW) work place pension which myself and my previous employer had made two years contribution. I have started making a £2880 'non-earning contribution' since April 2024. I plan to change and reduce the number of funds, and considering transferring out but SW needs me to sell down as cash before the…

Woodford compensation and No Win No Fee fees
I joined the class action with Harcus Parker for redress from the Woodford catastrophe which to cut a long story short was not heard in court and instead redress was made via FCA. I received the compensation which was a small fraction of what was lost and was very surprised to receive a bill from Harcus Parker for almost…

Tax implication of selling stock to invest in pension or ISA
Hi there I have an equity investment that I bought in a year when I had already maxed out my stocks and shares ISA allowance and didn't have a pension product I could pay it in to. Now I would like to sell them and put some in my pension and some in next year's ISA allowance. The company (Vanguard) says the process is that…

Savings interest and tax
Hi am I understanding correctly what Martin said in his program tonight that even though my wife and I are earning over £1000 each in interest, we won't be paying tax because there is an extra £5000 each we can earn? We are both pensioners 80 years old. I have been putting money into ISA's so that our interest from our…

GB Bank - The Good? The Bad? The Ugly?
I'm looking for an easy access savings account, and GB Bank currently seem to have a fairly enticing offer at 4.6% AER with a reasonable minimum opening balance and unlimited withdrawals, but I just don't seem to be able to find much information about them (apart from their own website). Does anybody have any personal…

Direct Payment Schemes for Inheritance Tax (IHT423) - Stocks and Shares
As HMRC have recently (late 2024) changed the rules to enable stocks and shares to be sold before probate is granted so that Inheritance Tax can be paid from the deceased's assets, under their "Direct Payment Schemes for Inheritance Tax (IHT423)", I've been trying to find any provider that has opted into this. I'm…

Fixed year bond that only pays interest at Maturity

Gatehouse EA (NLA) is there a minimum amount to keep account open?
Moving my money elsewhere as rate goes down to 4.27% from tomorrow 19/3. The documents I have regarding the account don't state a minimum deposit/amount to be held to keep the account open. I'd rather keep it open if I can rather than close, but not if it's a high minimum. Can't find anything on their website, not to say…
