Using savings to generate income.
I'd love to retire early - 55/56? (work till I'm 70 or so - no way). Of course, I'd need money so I'm looking at consolidating some savings and using these to generate an income. Has anyone experience of doing this? What sort of income could realistically be generated from say £60k? (I also have an occupational pension of…

Giving notice on savings accounts
Just a thought here. When I worked for one of the big 4 banks, there was a 60 day notice high interest savings account - they use the term 'high interest' loosely here. If you were staff or a graduate, the notice period was waived and you effectively had a high interest savings account with no notice which would have been…

Tax Free maximum?
I have 2 hopefully simple questions: 1. At work I have heard of paysave schemes which allow you to save, tax free, a maximum of £250 per month. This equates to £3000 per year but is this the same £3000 pounds that I am entitled to put into a cash ISA? or can I do both? 2. I currently hold an ISA which is below some of…

Guaranteed Equity Bonds [GEBs]
... It's quite easy to understand how these 'work' - you invest a lump sum on the level FTSE 100 index on a given date and receive a proportion of any increase in the value of the upto 5 [or 6] years later.. with the added assurance that you will get back all your money if the level of the index is actually lower at…

Halifax Regular Saver Early Closure
Greets all, Martins article on Halifax Regular Saver says: "Miss a payment or withdraw any cash and the account is closed and the interest up to that date is credited... " Perhaps I misunderstood what this meant cos when I was about to open a HRS account the other day they said that if the account is closed - for whatever…

£30K - Invest or pay off mortgage ?
Got 30K to invest. I can either pay off some of my mortgage in one lump sum (which would ease the monthly outgoings) or invest it. One thought I had was to invest the 30K and use the interest (around £1350 a year?) as a yearly overpayment towards the mortgage, but keeping the 30K intact. What do you reckon ? :-/
