LNER Strike Nov 3rd and Booking.com?
I have had a trip booked to London and back with LNER from Yorkshire for a while and the return journey falls on the train strike. To move my ticket is £227 for both of us and we would need another night in a hotel. LNER app isn't offering any advice or a way to live my ticket without extortionate fees and I can't cancel…

Cancelled train but not informed
Hi all, I purchased Lumo train tickets via Trainline from Edinburgh to London a few months before I travelled. On the day I arrived at Edinburgh station, I saw that my train was not on the board, when I spoke to staff they said the train was cancelled and all Lumo trains were cancelled due to engineering work and that I…

Medical emergency on train
Hi everyone, I'm curious as to what you should do in the event of a medical emergency on a train. I would personally avoid operating the passenger alarm unless I had absolutely no other choice, and even then I would rather wait until the next station then pull the alarm whilst the train is between stations. The only…

London e-scooter hire - Tier, Lime etc.
I downloaded the Tier app a while back and found it to be unclear about the service. It looked like if you hired an e-scooter in London Zone 2 you were then expected to ride it towards destinations in Central London before you were eligible to park it at one of the scooter hire bays. Is this just the way I read it or is…

What to do pending reissue of lost child Zip Oystercard
Hi all! 11 year old son discovered this morning while getting ready for school that he's misplaced his Zip Oystercard since Friday (he used it that evening to go to the women's international at Wembley so most have dropped it on the way home). We'll request a reissue today but they are sent by post and we don't expect to…

Taxi Starting Fare in Bristol. Is this legit?
Hi, I booked a taxi last night from the Bishopston area to the city centre and the taxi driver phoned to say he was outside the address. He was not outside at all, and when I spoke to him he changed his story and said he was in a different location, and could I go to him? I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia and had a…

Railcard October discounts: 33% off for digital railcards
(partly posting here in the forum to improve search-ability of a major discount--one that tends to repeat once or twice a year with limited availability--but I also have a follow up question as the first reply) Trainline and Trainpal are offering 33% discounts on most railcards for October (but limited availability so buy…

Avanti train bookings
Is anyone aware why Avanti will not let you book a ticket between London Euston and Chester (though other routes may be affected) from the 22nd October (2 weeks 3 days time)? Can we assume that once they open these up, we will not get charged the fee they normally charge for bookings closer to the dates?

Best time to buy rail tickets
OH has just started to have to travel into London by train semi regularly. Can you please advise if it's only ever the case that ticket prices go up the closer you get to the date of travel and after the cheaper tickets have run out? Do ticket prices ever go down as you get closer to travel dates? We managed to get a…

Uber... Shady practices?
I booked an Uber on Friday night. A driver accepted, he wasn't far away, then he cancelled on me and I was charged a £4.12 cancellation fee. I went into the app to dispute it, and was automatically and immediately given £4.12 account credit. I know it's only £4.12, but it's the principle for me. They tried to charge me for…

Worth the Ombudsman?
I had a return journey booked on Avanti WC. When I got to the station on the day, the National Rail app said the return journey would terminate part way back due to staff shortages. I chose to abandon travel as this would be a problem, and submitted an application for a refund, as you would with any cancellation. I just…
