older dogs smelling?
Hi all I have a 11-12 year old fairly long haired cross collie. Just recently she has started smelling more 'doggy' (all the time) if you know what I mean, even just after a trip to the groomers - so its not that she isn't clean. Does anyone know if dogs just start smelling a bit more due to age - I have a friend with a…

Do cats go senile?
Sadly, it looks like my Mum's cat is not going to last much longer. She's nearly 19 and been deaf for the last year or two. Otherwise in good health and not in any pain or distress. Now though she is only eating a few mouthfuls once every couple of days (mum is giving her bits of cooked chicken and fish) but she's refusing…

Dog v. Human Gravy
 I've seen doggy gravy on sale, in bottles rather like a table sauce but quite a bit dearer. Can anyone pass an opinion on them---I believe they come in beef or chicken varieties---or is it acceptable to use a 'human' stock cube or gravy powder? There is a famous brand of dog toy [think a large monkey on a tall…

Any experienced bunny owners out there?

I’m an experienced rabbit owner having kept house rabbits for over ten years. My current bunny is one month shy of eight years old and her health is deteriating as I suppose is to be…

How can I teach my dog to play?
About a month ago we rehomed a rescued male german shepherd (approx 18mths old). We don't know anything about his history only that he was found wandering round for what seems like weeks etc etc He was extremely nervous and very wary of new situations (certain behaviours tell us there has been abuse in his past too) but…

Vets!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last time I picked up one of my dogs' tablets from the vets and found there were four short. Immediately rang and asked them to post me them which they did - in a wage envelope inside a larger brown envelope, the result of which was that although two arrived OK the other two are crushed beyond belief! The tablets work out…

Home-made healthy treats for cats & dogs
Vet, Joe Ingle, was on Alan Titchmarsh's chat show this afternoon discussing obesity in pets, and showed us how to make very healthy low-fat treats for our pets. The recipes can be found here but I think they may change the front page daily so I'll copy them to this thread too :) Low fat treats for your companion - dog…

Can you freeze Cat Milk?
I'd never bought Cat Milk before, but decided to treat my cat when I spotted 3 packs of Whiskas Cat Milk in the reduced section at the local supermarket yesterday. It was out of date yesterday, and there's no way he will drink the lot up today. Does anyone know if I can freeze the unopened plastic bottles? Thanks.

Winalot Shapes
With my last dog, Winalot did a special offer that you got a free metal tin that you could store the biscuits in if you bought a big packet. I'm not sure what we did with the tin (and I'm not sure I'd be entirely happy with my new dog using it... I know, I know, sounds daft), but I can't find a replacement one anywhere.…

Can I bury my cat in a pot???
Hi all, My cat has his final vet appointment this afternoon - very sad. I've decided I would like to bury him in the garden with a plant over the top. However, space is a bit limited so wondering about getting a large pot to use instead? I've had a look round this site and the internet and most people recommend a deep hole…

Scardey cat
Hello - I hope someone can help me with any tips for taking a really nervous/aggressive cat to the vet. One of my cats has developed two patches of raw skin on her back where the fur has come off and she's licked at it and scratched it and it's really bothering her. Now if it was one of my other two cats they'd have been…

A few moneysaving bits of advise please.
Was just wondering after a morning pinning down our cat for his flea and worm treatment do we actually need to do this? He never goes out, never has any contact with any other animals so does he actually need the treament or would it be more cost effective for us to just treat him if he does happen to get something? Also…

Help - puppy biting dog!
Hi I live out in the sticks, have a young baby to look after and don't drive so in true MSE style I've bagged myself a little job puppy-sitting for one of my neighbours :D . Puppy vaccine compatibility????
Hi, My vet advised me that the vaccine that the breeder has arranged for my pup may not be compatible with the one he uses. This would mean starting the vaccines again with him. After contacting the breeder and getting the info my vet required he advised me that the vaccines aren't compatible. I advised the breeder not to…
