Diabetic dog food recommendations
My 12 year old dog has just been diagnosed today and is starting on insulin. The vet recommended the Royal Canin diabetic food but it is very expensive and the treatment is not going to be cheap! Just wondered if anybody with a diabetic dog uses a different high protein food that is not so pricey? Raw isn't an option.

Vacuum cleaner recommendations?
Hi... Looks as though our old Miele Cats & Dogs vacuum cleaner has had it. It was a good hoover, and we've had it many years. I'm considering Dyson - but would be interested in hearing which makes forum members would recommend. Posted this on the pet forum as would like something that is good for pet hair (cat). Thanks!

“Lost” microchip.....cat
Has anyone ever had a microchip get “lost” in their pet? We bought a chip-activated cat flap and discovered that our younger cat doesn’t have a chip, despite me asking for, and paying for one to be inserted when she was neutered, almost 5 years ago. I don’t care about the extra £20 that it has cost me to get a new one…

Metacam for elderly cat
My 19-year-old cat has been prescribed Metacam. The last lot cost £26 for 15 ML. This should last around a month. I've looked online and it says it is prescription only so by the time I have paid for the prescription from the vet it probably won't be any cheaper. Anyone know how I can keep the cost down?

Cat flaps for glass
Hi, looking to fit a cat flap in the glass panel of an aluminium door. Does anyone know if you can use a magnetic one? And given that the door is new, I'd prefer the cat flap to be as discreet as possible. Does anyone know of clear-framed cat flaps that are also magnetic (assuming magnetic is ok in aluminium)? Thanks!

Pet Behaviourist costs
We feel that our dog would really benefit from seeing a professional behaviourist and was surprised to find out that our pet insurance would cover this provided he is referred by the vet. However, I am a bit concerned that if we do claim the costs this will then count against him for the rest of his life (he is only eleven…

Pet Money Saving Advice

I’ve done some rudimentary research and the cost quoted on some websites nearly gave me a heart attack! Does anyone have any experience they can share with me? I haven't got anything at all yet, so any help,…

Timid Cat in a Loud Household :(
Hey everyone. Just looking for some advice. We've had one of our cats from a kitten. She's always been timid and has regularly "lashed out." She was hissing at 8 weeks old which I have been told is quite early? I don't know much about these things. We have had her since 2012. We've had two children since then (aged 5 and…

Bought a very sick puppy
So, finally gave in to my love of Labradors and agreed to get one. Noticed he was skinny when visiting but he was quite lively, so I wasn't majorly concerned and I was assured that vet was quite happy with his development. Breeder did saymas he wasn't getting much with his litter mates, he was being fed spearately. Once I…

sick dog - options?
Long post alert – sorry but my lovely dog is currently having an attack lasting a few days and its upsetting for us as well as painful for him! History - about a year ago our 5 year old dog started getting indigestion so bad that only a trip to the vet would sort it (injection/anti-inflammatory/pain killers) we originally…

Are there health care plans for pets?
Hi, next weekend Pebbles, a black and white cat is coming to live with me, thanks to the Cats Protection League. She's had all the necessary things done - wormed, spayed, microchipped, deflead etc - but are there any Health Care Plans available for pets to cover the everyday vets bills? I'm thinking something similar to…

Adopting cat with allergies - advice on testing
Hi everyone I've been fostering a beautiful young cat for a couple of months and am planning to adopt him. He's 2 and a half and a very friendly, happy cat, but he has severe allergies which are currently controlled with steroids (without them he scratches very badly at his eyes). The rescue shelter can't justify the cost…

Taken on a nervous rescue cat
Hi all, We recently took on a new, neutered 8 year old female cat from Cat's Protection and she has been with us for just over a month now. She seems to be settling in ok but is still very nervous around us, particularly if we're just wandering around the house at which point she will hide underneath a table or shoot up to…

Rehoming Older Dog
I am in two minds as to whether to rehome a dog or not as I have just recently lost my own dog. I was just wondering if I got one from a Dogs Trust or similar at an age of 8+, as this is the age when more things are likely to go wrong with a dog, do you get any kind of help from the Dogs Trust in treating the dog? I think…
