Success Stories - Pensions
This is a bit of a light topic where the idea is to highlight what successes you had with your pension pots. Example - I contributed X and accumulated Y by Z year. Total appreciation was 'x' percent. Just trying to learn the following that could inspire a range of people - those with no pension, those who started late etc.…

Acronyms etc..
Hello to all. As a fairly new forum user I would appreciate someone posting a key to the acronyms and arcane terms used when discussing pension issues. Thank you in advance.

A Paupers Pension Tale (Not many nuts to dig up)
Will try and make this as short as possible and is mainly
aimed for people like me who are thinking of or have retired early with only a
small pension pot. I have read through many posts on here and there is not much
out there for people like myself so I thought I would start this thread and
update it as I go along then…

A Seasonal Thank You
I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to say a big thank you to the stalwarts of this forum who continue to do so much to help so many people understand the intricacies of the UK pension environment. This help is invaluable, not just to those who ask the questions, but the countless more who learn from the…

Retirement is great!
Been free of work for over 2 and half years now. No more battles with the boss or infighting with fellow colleagues! No more needing to check before I book a concert, theatre etc to see if I can get the day off or by luck it’s on my day off! I can start late and carry on in my garden to whatever time not thinking it’s time…

It's been 6 months
It’s been 6 months since I jumped ship and I haven’t
regretted it for one second. I’d been seriously thinking about leaving work for the
previous 2 or 3 years but did struggle with the whole idea especially as I’m
only in my early 50’s. I’d spend years
building a career and didn’t notice how institutionalised I'd become. I…

Very grateful to have made it! Now to the future!
I rarely visit or comment in this area of the MSE forum but
just wanted to post the following. Earlier this week I officially became a state pensioner and
received the biggest annual pay rise I have ever had lol! I fully retired last year after 40 plus years of
full time and part-working in Education. I used the phased…

Thank you…
I’ve been researching options for my pension for a little while and feel I’ve understood the key issues. I’d more or less completed my research when I found this forum, and what I’ve read here (across many posts) has confirmed and validated my research, and answered one or two things I still wasn’t totally sure about. It…

Pension has finally landed - As an insistent client acting against advice -*DOORS CLOSED 03/09/2021*
EDIT 03/09/2021 - PensionBee door has been closed Well as my pension has finally landed from my DB scheme I can finally reveal who accepted me as an insistent client - PensionBee. I am not saying you should do this lightly, I weighed up everything before doing this and I believe it is the right decision for me. How long…

High risk, high reward: A pauper's dream of early retirement.
As regulars on this forum will know, I am trying to retire early while working part time, with a current salary of about £21.5K. Five years ago (after the loss of a loved one) I started to take my life and my finances a bit more seriously. I was 43 at the time, with a combined pension and ISA of £73.5k. I decided to make…

Bold leap into retirement
Morning all, I hope you have managed to find some time for yourself in what can be a busy period. We have enjoyed spending time with family over the last 3 days, it’s a quiet one today, then off to visit more family tomorrow. I’m not planning anything wild for NYE, but have been really starting to think about what I want…

First year of retirement
Dear diary and all, I am starting this diary as a record of my first year in retirement. OH and I both officially retire at the end of August, at the moment we are on annual leave until then. There is quite a lot of advice about the financial planning aspects approaching retirement, but I have found less about the reality…

I did it… I’m retiring… no more dithering
Update… I’m officially retiring as of October, after much dithering! Plenty to sort out workwise, but also starting to allow myself to plan my retirement! Thanks to those of you who’ve helped along the way by commenting on my previous posts.

Inheritance Tax - I’ve learnt to look on the bright side
I have always been a frugal person - I’ve always wanted to pass on as much as possible to the kids when I go. I find it difficult to spend money on myself - maybe as a result of growing up in a family without much money and hating waste. This new change to include pensions as part of your estate has made me do a lot of…

JIMI NHS MNTHLY A
I have received a payment into my bank account with the above description but I don’t know what it means. Presumably something to do with my NHS pension? Also got a payment from NHS TAX I’m guessing it’s related. Does anyone know what it means? I don’t mean to look a gift horse in the mouth but I don’t want to spend it for…

Thanks everyone! (I'm almost retired)
Back in August 2018, my first post on this site asked for confirmation that I probably had enough £ to retire. The general response was "Yes, get on with it." Well, time passed, as it does, and in January 2020 I asked an updated version of the same question again - with pretty much the same response. It's January 2021. As…

Approaching the Finishing Line (or is it the Starting Line)
I spoke to my boss today and confirmed I would be leaving on 31st March, they have known it was my plan to retire sometime in 2025 but just not when, until now. Financially I feel comfortable. I'm 55 in April, single and child free, house is valued at £750k with £72k left on the mortgage. I have £410k in the DC pot with…

Retirement income targets analysis
Targets for income in retirement seem to have become dominated by the Pension and Lifetime Saving Association's Retirement Living Standards. There are issues with the methodology, and many on this forum consider the latest set of Standards rather inflated, especially those required for the 'Moderate' and 'Comfortable'…

IFA to restricted adviser
Having spent many years as an employed Independent Financial Adviser (IFA), my employers have sold their business, and in three months' time I will become a Financial Adviser (FA). It's Finally Done
Just a thanks to all on here. I don't post very much but have read plenty over the last few years. What I have learnt has given me the confidence to pull the trigger. I finish 6th September, so 12 working days to go ( 3 day week for the last year). Used to love the job but the 'elf & safety brigade have got the better of…
