Do State Schools Make Surgeons And Doctors?
The Cons think not apparently - Tory candidate Maria Hutchings has apparently said that her son can't go to the highly praised Ofsted inspected state schools in Eastleigh because he wants to be a surgeon - I think that will hurt of families' feelings, especially locally.

Debating whether to go back to work!!
I would like to go back to work after 1 yr maternity leave. After paying childcare £1200 in greater London and train, I will be left only with £300. Organic toddler snacks
Um this may be one of the more unusual threads on the Mums board but if I can get some input from you please, it would really help me save money. OH and I went organic last March and as yet there really isn't much in the way of organic sweets and snack food. No organic crisps or cereal bars in supermarkets and very few…

Long Holiday and child school
I plan for a long holiday about 4 weeks during Easter holiday when there is around 2 weeks school term holiday. My kid will be absent for 2 week and their school has penalty clause for child being absent which is about £50 * no of days absent. I already pay heavy tax etc and on top of this penalty clause is ridiculous. How…

School uniforms
HI, I'm posting this on behalf of a friend. Her daughter's school has sent her a letter regarding uniforms. Basically, as long as children wore the school colours, parents could buy uniforms from any retailer. But now the school is asking parents to buy jumpers with the school badge (which can only be purchased from the…

Mums - How Do You Make it Worth It to Work?
I'd love to hear some financially-based stories of how you make going out to work worth it when you've got childcare to think about. I'm not trying to be contentious whatsoever, I'm just struggling to see, from my point of view, how it would be worth it to work part time. I've got three children: one toddler and two school…

My 16 year old is currently in reciept of EMA and has a Saturday job which means he has approx £240 per month disposable income.
