Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?
Hi all, Moved into a house in Jan that has a bulk LPG tank, which was previously supplied (and the tank is owned by) Calor. The contract they were really keen for me to sign was quite a restrictive lock in one and after speaking and a bit of negotiating they dropped the standing charge and discounted the pence per litre by…

Why are heat pump topics banished to this section of the forum?
This part of the forum is titled LPG, heating oil, solid & other fuels If your home is powered by anything that's NOT mains gas or electricity, this is the place to find help and support. Why are topics on heat pumps moved here? Why would you look here for topics on heat pumps? My heat pump is powered by mains electricity,…

Unable to provide receipts for AFP
We're not connected to gas and our main heating is a combination of oil, solid fuel and wood. Octopus said we aren't on the list for AFP and we will have to make an individual claim. I went through this today and we are eligible according to the system. It then asks for receipts post-September 2022 which we don't have. Our…

Current Home Heating Oil Prices - Still Far Too High
We've seen the cost of petrol and diesel drop dramatically over the past month or so thanks to declining oil prices and I've already heard some announcements of gas being reduced however, home heating oil still seems scandalously expensive. I can't get gas where I live, so I have little choice but to suck it and see. My…

24/7 Home Rescue Plans - Help if needed
Reading this forum, many like myself have suffered from 24/7 Home Rescue policies and their record in declining valid claims. I have recently successfully obtained a full refund from them. It took nearly a year and there was a lot of time wasting but to help others I thought I'd write a guide to help others out with tips I…

Wood pellet boilers
We live in a rural area and rely on wood pellets for heating and hot water. It has been mentioned that LPG and oil fired systems are eligible for government support, but we've not seen any mention of wood pellets. Has anyone seen or heard an announcement regarding support for wood burners? Like all energy sources, the…

Info article: Are heat pumps cheaper to run than mains gas? The answer is no...
Just seen the below article, there is a target of 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028! Whilst I am all for supporting heat pumps as the main source of heat, until they bring down the cost of electricity per kWh it is not worth the investment and extra running costs over mains gas. Gas is very cheap so if you have a…

Oil Combi Boilers?
Hi, Anyone offer any advice on how good oil combi boilers are? We have a standard Grant oil boiler with a vented tank. It works well but there quite a few downsides I would love to get rid of: > The cyclinder takes up a lot of room in the bathroom. > The loft space is too small to house cold water header tanks so they are…

How to complain about Calor Gas
I wish to complain about Calor Gas but don’t know who to go to. Basically they have left my elderly parents who have limited mobility and were both discharged from hospital 5 days ago, with no gas ( no heating, hot water or cooking facilities) despite being notified of low tank readings regularly since the 18/12/23 and…

10Kg bags of smokeless fuel in Aldi for £6.49
This might be old news or well known, but I just picked up three 10Kg bags of smokeless fuel in Aldi this morning for £6.49 a bag. No idea how it compares to Blaze or Brazier. Most other stores seem to be selling these two for between £7.50 and £7.99 per 10Kg bag. Thought I would mention it in case anyone needs small bags…

AFP application open receipts required from 1 JUNE not September.
Our electricity supplier (Eon) did not give us the afp. After contacting they advised we apply through the government website. We use oil as we live on a farm lane with no gas. On filling out the application today they require receipts from September to show you use an alternative fuel - If you can't supply them then no…
