18th Century Cottage. Listed Building. Conservation Area. No Garden. No Mains Gas
Ok so I've had a good read through the threads on here and in a nutshell here is our issue: We've just had a final bill from our old (now gone into administration) energy supplier for 3 weeks over Xmas and that was at the old fixed rates. £300. We've now been moved to a new supplier at twice the price and that's before the…

RHI Payments Application
Hi, We had a air-source heat pump fitted last year (May 2021) and were advised we would get around £700 annually as RHI payment. We were having some building work done at the time, so they couldn't finish the work (two radiators to be fitted in the new extension) but were told it would be finished by the end of the year,…

Heating oil price doesn't add up?
I'm suddenly seeing heating oil quotes of 130p to 180p. If petrol is 155p including roughly 57p of duty plus 20% vat then; heating oil with 10p duty and 5% vat should be about 87p a litre. Am I working this out wrong? Or is something going on. Presumably either panic buying or is there a genuine shortage? Or are sellers…

Bulk LPG Surcharge
I get my gas from ExtraGas (who source it from Avanti and the other main suppliers). I signed a 2 year contract with them last year which stated that the price could only increase by a maximum on 3.5p per litre every 6 months. Now when I look at my account settings, I see that they applying a 22p per litre surcharge. When…

Solar Panels
Hi Team We have solar panels and we feed in to the tariff. The amount is around 5p per unit! How can we get more from the tariff? It seems unfair that companies can put their charges up but we can't! Keep up the good work. Regards

Heat pump is using far too much electricity at the moment
I think I may need to change some settings to make savings. I have hot water peak on every day. Does anyone know often should it be on to comply with legionella regulations? It is a holiday cottage. We decided to live in the cottage for a week or two to see why the pump is on so often. It hasn't always been like this. The…

No heating at the property for 5 days
Hi All, I hope you are doing well.I have a question: What in your opinion be a correct way of escalating this issue?A company called Switch2 is responsible for the heating system in the building - it's a communal heating system so there is no boilers at the property just some valves allowing the flow.I had no issues with…

Oil prices
What’s everyone’s view on oil prices continuing to go up ? I know we all need a crystal ball 😫 we are getting really low on heating oil , normally we would hang on for another month or so for prices to come down. The price is ridiculous at the moment, we just don’t know what to do?!

Can LPG supplier add surcharge on fixed price contract?
We signed a new (continuing) contract at the end of last summer to retain our price of LPG with our supplier at 42ppl. In October we received a letter saying we need to pay 10ppl surcharge due to the rising cost of fuel. Can our supplier do this? We are tied to the one supplier unfortunately due to where our tank was put…

Biomass
Hello, Our house currently relies on a couple of storage heaters and a large log burner, we are hoping to have a heating system installed in the next few months. We already got quotes for oil (we have no gas here and heat pumps are unsuitable) but I've got a few companies coming in to quote for biomass in the next few…

carbonneutralteam scams
Had a call from carbonneutral rep on doorstep who spent half an hour persuading me that I could have solar panels for free on the latest govmt scheme. I didn't believe him but booked a survey for 3 days later. No one turned up and a phone call to his office says she'll investigate and call me back. Ha Ha Just a bunch of…

Oil heating in rental property
I'm in the process of looking for somewhere to rent and found quite a nice bungalow, but noticed it has oil-fired central heating (no mains gas). I have no experience of that at all, but my understanding was that running costs are generally higher than for gas CH. However, given the recent energy price hikes I'm wondering…

Flogas Delivery Issues
As a Flogas customer using a bulk LPG (I live in a rural location without a gas main option and have a giant tank buried in my front garden). Flogas own the tank and automatically top-up it up when it gets low (at least that's the theory). I have run out of gas and Flogas are failing in their obligation to deliver more gas…

Removal of LPG Bulk Tank
My dad installed an LPG tank approx 13 years ago. He was using it to fuel his car. He passed away and my mum has an electric car so doesn’t need/ want the tank. We want it removed but have no idea where to start. We can’t find any information on the tank and I think he may have even bought it off eBay. Can’t be 100% sure.…

Damp smokeless coal
Hi, new to coal, so I am trying to learn. I just got my multi fuel addition to my existing stove. So far so good. I went to buy a bag of coal from Range and found it is very wet inside. Upon searching on google I have discovered this is NOT an uncommon occurrence. What do do in these cases? Tomorrow I am going to try a…

Old Gas Boiler replacement - STILL not viable?
With gas prices well on their way to trebling if seemed the right time to replace my reliable 35-year-old G-rated boiler. The recommended new boiler is up to £1200 incl VAT, and online sources suggest an experienced gas fitter in the South East should be £380 a day, for the two days required to change my conventional floor…
