Air Source Heat Pump running it efficiently
So please talk to me like I know nothing, moved into our house in June last year and the house already had a Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pump and it has been reasonably efficient. What I want to do is maximise efficiency for this winter with the higher fuel bills. Some do's and don'ts on how to run it and general advice please

Yoyr local oil club could help with price if heating oil
Folks, for anyone that uses oil for heating you'll probably have seen the heating oil price has sky rocketed, so you may benefit from looking to see if you have a local Oil Club? They're local community groups looking to buy heating oil in bulk to reduce individual costs https://pghintsandtips.blogspot.com/p/oil-club.html

How many PV panels to keep a thermal store topped up with no use?
Just thinking aloud. Exploring bio-mass for a house that is often left unoccupied for a couple of weeks - sometimes even a couple of months - at a time. Biomass is usually used via a thermal store, and this has the benefit of being able to have other sources of heat added to it - solar heat panels, PVs via an immersion,…

Heat Pump Water Heaters - any experience?
These are new to me. They are water tanks with a built-in heat pump (like a fridge in reverse). They are designed only to heat this tank for DHW use, not to provide actual room/house heating. https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/heat-pump-water-heaters Any idea of cost? Effectiveness? Worth it? Cheers.

Hydrogen gas / heating pump / solar panels
Hello, I've started to explore alternative energy and looked at hydrogen gas and heat pumps. They're hydrogen gas boilers on the market for the same price as natural gas ones, using the same principle. Would a hydrogen gas generator be enough to produce what we need for home ?! Heat pumps would involve a bigger investment…

Where does biomass (pellets) fit in cost-wise now?
Hi. Bro currently has an old oil boiler which will undoubtedly need replacing before too long. A&GSHPs are not an option due to the age of the house, and the cost of bringing insulation levels up beyond what he currently has - loft and cavity. He hates the 'idea' of oil, and also obviously the cost. So, where would a…

How can we compare prices
We have oil central heating at our home. We are advised to compare prices, but those companies who provide oil in our area of Wales won't quote any prices. Certas Energy, which has consistently been cheaper than any other company, used to charge you at the price of oil on the day you order. Now they take your order, but…

ASHP v oil as of April 22
With the price of electricity going up in April and again in
October is it financially variable to be able to run an ASHP cheaper than an oil central
heating system without any aid from solar or battery back ups? I have to have a new central heating system installed and
its going to have to be either ASHP or oil but even…

£1,500 to cap Gas supply I don't need!
Help please, I moved into a bungalow which has a gas and electric mains supply. I haven't used gas and have installed a Air Source Heat Pump, so will never use gas again. The Energy supplier wants to charge me for the gas standing charges or I have to pay £1,500 to have the Gas supply capped off in the road. This is…

Immersion for hot water vs heating oil boiler
Hi! Looking for some opinions here please.... With the price of heating oil having risen exponentially, we are considering buying an immersion timer and using that to heat our hot water twice daily. This would be instead of using the oil based boiler to heat the water. We wouldn't have considered this previously due to the…

Oil central heating
Hello :) I know this is going to be a “how long is a piece of string” question…but I’m hoping someone is able to give me an idea. I’m currently in the process of purchasing a house. It’s a 3 bed detached with double garage and two lounges. It isn’t on the main gas line so the current owners have an oil tank which services…

LPG - Switching suppliers
Hi there, just looking for your thoughts. I moved LPG suppliers about 3 months ago. I have just return from holiday and found that the old supplier had filled my LPG tank up whilst away, but it was for a different account number on the delivery note - not mine. Just thinking about what to do here. The obvious think to do…

could this be cheaper than using oil now?
Hi, oil central heating - have enough until the summer (I hope) - thanks to wife's canny purchasing (boiler juice) when they had offers. We are always needing to be careful and only put the heating on when we really need it (with a max temperature of 16C), staying in kitchen if something in oven, two fleeces, blanket handy…

Boiler house condensing boiler-any advice as regards brands?
Hi folks, Was told that this post is more suitable for this forum, rather than "In my Home" forum I'm in the initial stages of researching an oil filled boiler house condensing boiler to replace an old 30 year cast iron boiler (burner was replaced about 20 years ago) all working well at the moment, but as I understand it,…

Should I order heating oil now or in two months?
Help?! We have oil fired central heating and hot water, so no Government price cap! When I ordered my last lot of oil in October last year it was 62p a litre, now its £1.20 a litre and rising. I have to order a minimum of 500 litres, £600!!! I can’t only just about afford that as a one off cost. However, in addition I…

Central Heating Oil prices...
Last week, I bought 500 liters at a cost of £381 (76.2p/liter) Today, looking for oil for mum, the cheapest I could find oil was 500 liters for £740 (£1.48/liter) Now, that's a 94% rise in one week.(Northern Ireland has the highest rate of oil usage for heating in Western Europe for historical reasons)Are we now just…
