LPG Boiler Service Contract
I've just had our renewal come through for our Worcester Bosch (Domestic & General) Service Contract and it'd increased £10 to a ridiculous £38 per month. Does anyone know any alternative providers who cover LPG boilers which are over 10 years old? The other option is to service it independently and self-insure.

Villager Flatmate - do I fill these gaps?
Just scraped out literally kgs of rust from the inside, especially from the underside of the top plate. Was starting to think there would be little metal left, but actually it's pretty solid. And cleaned out a ~10mm gap between the rear firebricks and the back panel - see photo. Also, due to the square shape of the floor…

Diesel Heater, emergency use & costs vs gas combi boiler + electric supply for it?
Hi. I'm really thinking of every option at the minute. Background: I live in a 1 bed ground floor flat, fairly well insulated, currently havnt had to turn the heating on and temperatures havnt dropped below 19.5c. No chimney, have a garden. The combi boiler is rated 5.1 - 25.6kwh. Last year it ran for 5 hours on the…

ID my Villager, please.
Damn, damn, damn - just as I was half-way through converting a gas Stove to solid fuel, I got the opportunity to pick up a Villager wood-burner for a price that would have been rude not to. And, under the tatty exterior, it is in remarkably good condition. Blast. So, gas-solid conversion on hold, possibly permanently :-(I…

Cheapest supplier of smokeless coal/briquettes this year?
Does anyone have the best prices for smokeless bags of 'coal' this year please? I normally buy from a local chandlery, and it's gone from £12.50 for 25kg to £16.50 for 25kg this year. This might be the best price I can get it, but I just wondered what other people are paying for this kind of fuel, and if I can get it any…

Time of Use Electricity Tarriffs that are currently available
Can anyone please tell me which companies currently offer Time of Use tariffs as I want to install batteries to charge up overnight and use during the day which I will supplement with my solar panels. Also, if you know of the current rates it would also help enormously I was considering the Tesla Octopus tariff. However, I…

LPG user, elderly parent, how to minimise cost
I understand that LPG supply of gas via large tank in the garden does not come under the governments energy price cap. My elderly mother (78) is worried as she has a gas boiler linked to a large tank for hot water and her heating. She is of the mind short term to buy some electric radiators for heating, but other than…

Flogas rip off standing charges
We took out a new contract with Flogas for the supply of LPG
in December 2020. We had agreed a fixed price for LPG for the first 12 months
and a maximum price for the year after. A standing charge was also agreed at
22.18p per day. That standing charge was increased to 27.65p per day last
September. We have just received a…

How much (kg) and what type of fuel do you use in your multifuel stove?
I have just bought a multifuel stove 5kw size, i have done my research given the fuel crisis and such but my research gives me many different results. I know thre's many factors such as; House size to heat - 2 bed semi, will mainly be using the fire to warm our open plan front room diner, nothing massive. How often will it…

Should I change to gas?
I'm about to move house and the new property has oil heating. I've been used to having gas for the last 20 years and I'm aware of the convience so was planning to change the heating to gas. However given the latest news about blackouts and shortages I'm now wondering if its worth the risk. The property does have an open…

The discretionary oil payment
Apologies, I'm fairly certain this question has been done to death! Do we know when the £100 discretionary payment for oil is available and how can we get it? I purchase tank full at a time, so I'm wondering how it will work? Many thanks for any clues!

Oil or off peak electricty for domestic hot water?
I normally use off peak electricity to heat my hot water via the immersion heater. Now that electricity is so expensive, I wondered whther I should use my oil boiler to heat the water (I only use that for heating the house).I've tried to calculate this: I've just bought some oil - price is 90.2 pence per litre. Off peak…

Solar Together (London Mayor initiative) - appalling lack of service from the installer
Hello to fellow forum members I'm sure we're not the only ones who have been thinking of installing solar panels recently. We took part in the Solar Together initiative marketed by the London Mayor, paid for survey and since then, it's all been downhill. The survey deemed our property suitable for the panels, and an…

Wood burning stove 'wash' and stuff...
Hi. About to collect a gas-burning stove - a 'Yeoman Exe' - bought cheaply (that's me) on t'Bay, with a view to converting it to 'solid'. No idea yet how the current model is air-supplied - eg from underneath, or front or whatevs - but it has a conventional flue like most of the models in the range, regardless of fuel…

Heating Oil rebate - £100?
I have read that those who use heating oil (we do) get an extra £100 rebate from the Government. Does anyone know if this is right? And, if so, then how do we go about claiming it? We pay for our heating oil as we use it not via DD. How would the Govt know that we do use heating oil?

Wood burning stove with integrated boiler
In the process of buying an old farmhouse with 3 bedrooms. We are going to insulate well everywhere and looking at a way of heating water/radiators particularly in the winter months. We are going to install evacuated tubes and solar panels but wondering about a wood burner with integrated boiler . Has anyone any other…
