How do I set my Honeywell Hot Water time to be on automatically once a day?
Hello, I have this boiler switch: How do I set it so that it boils for one hour once a day? Let's say from 3am to 4am. I tried to set it but I don't think I understood how to do it properly so it didn't work. Any help would be great :)

Are Air Source Heat Pumps worth the outlay?
We have an oil tank and combi boiler and are thinking about ASHP but there's a big outlay and were weighing up the pro's and cons. Our current boiler is old and not really efficient but replacing that like for like would be much cheaper than installing a whole new system. We live in central Scotland so in the winter we…

Suspect claims of solar panel supplier
first4solar are advertising a 16 panel 4kW system for £4995, claiming up to 50% saving on annual electricity bill. To achieve this you would surely have to use washing/ tumble driers/cooking/heating etc only when sun is shining and producing more kWs than you are using in total at any time. Has anyone actually reduced…

oil tank security - advice please
Hi I am in a rented property and so basic things like moving the oil tank, new double skin oil tank and sinking the oil tank are not something the landlord is about to do (have asked! won't even provide a lock!) I've looked at a lock myself but as they can easily cut the line and take the oil out there, so am not going to…

OVO Smart Meters
At the end of July OVO had Smart Meters installed at my house. The engineer told me that I could get the total kWh used by pressing the 9 button. When I asked him about my Economy 7 he referred me to OVO. When I contacted OVO they told me that I could get the total kWh used for both Day and Night by pressing the 6 button…

New to heating oil
Good Morning, I am about to move house in the next couple of weeks into a house with heating oil. I have never used this before and always been on the main gas. I just want to know what I should expect with heating oil? Is the ordering process easy? And do I need to be in for deliveries? There is a gate that gives access…

Npower
Hi. Maybe it's just me but did you know that Npower's price guarantee only refers to the standing charge tariff, the actual energy costs can and do vary. My bill increased by 22% after two months

Repair or Replace? 13 year old combi boiler
We have an Ideal Mini combi boiler which we had installed around 13 years ago - its had a pump replaced and other bits over the years but has generally been reliable although the boiler engineers have said its a pig to work on. Currently, I went to go and turn on the central heating again with the cold snap and noted it…

Paraffin
I am now using paraffin for my main source of heat, for the first time since the 1970's! There is a lot of prejudice against paraffin, but most of it is unjustified. I live in a mobile home park. Electricity, I have to buy from the park. Between September and December last year they almost doubled the price. I was using…

Advice needed - heating oil company topped up my tank in error
Bit of a strange one here! A heating oil company randomly topped up my oil tank a little while ago even though we had not ordered with them. The delivery note they left had someone else's name and a phone number not belonging to me or the person mentioned on the order (we called the number to find out of they'd ordered the…

Hi I spoke with my energy supplier through their online app Npower and asked if I was on the cheapest tarrifs for my usage. The first person said I was on the cheapest tarrifs, and when I asked if I was to change to a non economy 7 tarrif would I be any cheaper and he still said I was on cheapest tarrif. So I used their…

Coal in Woodburner
I have recently moved into a house where the central and water heating is run from a wood burning stove. I have been told that the best way to keep the fire in is to use coal. This will be particularly important to me- am single and sometimes work 12- 14 hour days so there is no one else to nurture fire. New territory for…

Metal Gas cylinder refund FloGas(former BP)
Wondering if any forum members have had this issue. I had a BP(labelled) metal gas cylinder few years ago when I had to pay 32 GBP deposit for the cylinder. Now the company says they no longer re-fill the cylinder and also they won't give any money back that was paid as deposit when I got it. There must be thousands of…

Multi Fuel Stove reviews help?!
Hi all, I'm new to the forum and am looking for advice on a multi fuel stove. We've seen the Cast Tec Norvik 5 for a really good price locally, but I cannot find any decent reviews for it. Does anyone have one, or can recommend a good 5kw stove. Looking to spend no more than £750 on the stove itself. Thanks!

Anthracite, what conflicting advice
Does it damage a stainless chimney liner or not? Nightmare trying to get the correct answer. When you google it the first site(chimney sweep) says you should always use it as it a natural product and not manufactured and will not damage the liner The second one says it ruins the stainless chimney liner. Various other sites…
