Sealing quarry tiles
We have a Victorian house. One room has old quarry tiles over what I am pretty sure is a suspended wooden floor (it is above a cellar). My wife wants to get the quarry tiles sealed for some reason, and am just wondering whether this is advisable.

uPVC window frames - unexpected plastic welds
Hi, I'm currently having some new window frames fitted. Some of the T-joints look like they've been made by joining 3 pieces like in the photo below. For some of the joins the cross part of the T looks to be one piece so it only has the recessed V part. Other joins have a sticking out plastic welded bit where it looks like…

Loft Condensation - to dehumidify or not?
We moved into our house December 2024, by January we noticed that the felt in the loft was absolutely dripping with condensation, almost like it was raining in the loft. We've installed loads of lap vents and the previous owners installed 2 tile vents. I can see daylight in the eaves areas so these aren't blocked. The roof…

Privacy on bathroom window?
Hello Can anyone recommend a type.of window or window film that will prevent even silhouettes from being seen from the outside bathroom window, even on a dark night with bathroom light on? I did email a manufacturer and they said "you can have a glass called reflective float that you can see out but not in it looks like a…

In the quote was work on a small painting job outside, the fitting of alcove shelves, the replacement of a tap and mantel. What…

Boot print on new porcelain tiles
Hi everyone, I’ve recently (few days ago) had porcelain tiles laid in my garden. Like an idiot I must have walked on some cement/primer/unsure of the residue which has left a boot print. I have tried washing it down with washing liquid and scrubbing it which hasn’t worked and today have tried HG cement remover which also…

Neighbours need to put scaffolding in my garden
Hi My neighbours (semi detached) are building a two story extension and have asked if its ok for the builders to put scaffolding in my garden in order to access the roof. This has all come at really bad timing as me and my husband have recently separated and he has moved away so I've not had the headspace to deal with it…

But gives an idea): Floorplan (things have change slightly since I did this, but it gives an idea of…

Customer took £2000 off a builder price after the job was done with talking to the builder
Hi, Builder quoted for work on a house by E-mail, customer said yes to E-mail. £6000. The job went on a little longer as they sent the wrong windows, it was Covid, and the customer build something in front of were they were working, this slowed them down the last day, so had to come back one more day. After they said they…

How to make this computer desk look half decent
Hi folks, I have a large, grey (out of warranty) desk from Maison Du Monde. It's mostly fine, but the surfaces that are touched/leaned on regularly are in a bad way. The paintwork has come off and it looks a mess. I was tempted to sticker-bomb the bad parts, but my partner said that will look daft. She suggested I sand it…

About letter boxes
I can't find a board that is suitable so please move if there is one. Lived here 7yrs and for 6 the post goes as expected through the letter box.
