Flat roof
I have a fairly large extension with a flat roof. Over time it has puddled in one place resulting eventually into a leak in the hallway. So we decided to get the roof recovered. As the room involved is always cold we decided to go for a "warm roof" I think that was the term. Anyway it involved completely removing the roof…

Reducing condensation in the loft
Am I correct to think that running a fan in the loft for long periods should dry the loft and reduce any condensation that may form up there? Also, there's no down side to this given the fan is very cheap to run?

Double glazing question

Change ‘dumb’ heating controller for a ‘smart’ one?
Am having an issue with my heating controller. It’s a simple one, Drayton I’m pretty sure. It only controls the heating to the radiators on the top and basement floors of the house. There is a separate controller for the UFH system in the middle level of the house, and this also controls the hot water. This controller is…

Condensation in and on double glazing
2 months ago I had new windows fitted in kitchen and bathroom and a new back door with glazing that opens into the kitchen. It's…

Shared chimney with neighbour
I share a chimney with my neighbours. Our houses are semi detached. They had a full new roof done some years ago. Since then I've been getting leaks into my front bedroom on the chimney breast. I don't know if it's because of their roof but over the years I've had repairs done on my side and they have stopped the leaks but…

New Xmas toy - thermal imaging camera
Hi, I treated myself to a Topdon thermal imaging camera that attaches to my phone to help me locate cold spots. It’s a lot of fun! My front door area/hall is always freezing and I took this snapshot: Is this likely the causes of the lack of ability to heat this space? It’s a wooden door with a small single glazed window,…

I need to change my flat porch roof to a pitched one - it’s leaking in plus would then match next door who have a pitched one.
