Radiator in Bedrooms. Do you use them.
We hardly if ever switch on the radiators in the bedrooms. We use the central heating downstairs in winter, but never really use it upstairs. I’m planning DIY work in my bedroom and need to move radiator. I’m thinking of greatly reducing the size of the radiator to free up space in bedroom. Then I’m also thinking, why not…

Fibreglass Insulation — How to Dispose of?
Hi all, During our reroof, we’re looking to throw away all our old ceiling-level fibreglass insulation (damp in places, compressed, just old), and then replace with new fibreglass insulation. Where can we dispose of the old insulation? Can it be taken to the local tip (for free)? Thanks in advance!

Windows on interest free credit
I found a company that does 5 years interest free credit on new windows (if it's a big job). This suits my current situation but their brochure doesn't excite me. It's full of chunky UPVC stuff. Does anyone know of a window company who can make a similar offer but make and install contemporary aluminum windows/

Casual Work - Neighbour's Son
I'm not sure where this thread should sit as it could be in many forums, so hopefully this is as good as any. My neighbour's son was pestering me for some work and I have always refused on the basis of not encouraging child labour and I wondered whether it was a risk of creating an "awkward" situation. He has washed my…

Insulation under the bath - ideas?
My house (fairly standard 1950s 3-bed semi) has an 'outside loo' It's not really 'outside' but has a downstairs loo with access from outside with a shed-style latch door (as a gardener I've always found it a very useful feature) It has no heating and can get rather chilly in there in winter. It is immediately underneath…

Telescope or rifle stand? (John C. J. KNOTT. A K-B product)
Ok, this doesn't fit in the DIY section, but I can't find a more relevant forum on this site - now't 'antique' or similar? Anyhoo, I just bought a stunning 1915 3-draw telescope locally, and the guy gave me this folding stand he used with it. It's more recent - I'm guessing ~1950 - as it was around that time the K-B…

Different wallpapers and walls in kitchen, what to do!
I moved into a council house a few months back. It's an old terraced house and in fairly decent, liveable condition. However I'm having a right time of it with the wallpaper! Had a nightmare removing washable wallpaper from the living room, and the kitchen is another matter altogether! On one wall there's painted over,…

Log burner snapped bolt
Hoping someone can help. We’ve been using our log burner for quite a lot lately. As such I thought best to remove and straighten a warped protective metal piece at the back (already done when we moved in) I applied a substantial amount of WD40 however as soon as I applied a little force to the bolt it’s snapped off. I can…

Radiator Thermostatic Valves and Central Heating Programmer/Wireless Thermostat - Help please
Hi, Like a lot of people, I'm being confronted with my previous lazy ways with household energy, and realising that it isn't affordable anymore. Q Bot underfloor Insulation
Hi, I have just been offered a free survey to see whether we can get underfloor installation installed. I have been told they would use something called Q-bot which I googled and can see uses spray foam insulation. I know that foam insulation is a disaster for lofts and was just wondering if it was also bad to be used for…

Why does my house have a SaniFlo and is it going to be possible to remove it?
Just bought a house. Originally bungalow with upstairs dormer conversion completed in 2011. It has SaniFlo for the upstairs bathroom (en suite and shower room). We knew it had them and thought we'd just have to see how they went and hopefully replace them at some point. One is fine but the other is terrible, blocked up…
