Sizing solar & battery requirements and selecting a supplier
Knowing what was likely to happen with electricity prices I started looking at a solar & battery solution last year. Now I've had my electricity renewal in and it's gone up by over 40% I'm glad I started when I did. I've documented the steps I took to size and choose my solution at the link below. If you're considering a…

How Important Home Energy Assessment to Reduce Bills?
Assume
you are operating a vehicle. You wouldn't disregard the fuel gauge, would you?
Like an automobile, our world runs on energy, so it's more crucial than ever to
keep an eye on how we use it. The importance of energy assessment is becoming
more and more clear as 2024 draws near. So, what's the big deal about?

Is anyone force-charging their solar batteries using Octopus overnight rates?
We're considering solar (again), but only have room for 6 panels on our roof. Since we are high consumers (an average of 18.5 kWh per day, based on annual totals), and are also at home during the day, we would like to optimise the financial benefits by force charging the battery from the grid overnight, when Octopus's…

Solar panel Certification
Hi, Can anyone please tell me how to get the Certificate I think is called an MSC. I had Solar panels fitted back in June last year and need this certificate to start claiming the money back from my electric company for the excess going back to the grid. I have phoned the company a ridicules amount of times and several…

New solar install advice for very power hungry household!
Hi, Wondered if I could tap the expertise here, assuming i'm on the correct board! I'm looking to get some solar installed, at the house we moved to a year ago but its getting quite complex and expensive. Over the last year we have used around 16,000 KWH per year, mainly in spring and summer as unfortunately the house…

Sigenergy battery + solar - charger too?
Hi I'm just wondering if it's worth getting a Sigenergy AC charger, or if it's instead worth getting an Indra / Zappi charger? I ask because Sigenergy aren't compatible with IOG despite apparently being in the pipeline. Given Givenergy still isn't approved, that doesn't give me hope Now, my car itself is compatible but…

Failed GivEnergy AIO
Hi, My battery failed after 10 months, my question is who has the liability ? the installer or the manufacturer ? I have been trying to get support from GivEnergy since December, but their support is dreadful. I'm now worried since GivEnergy look like they are going bust, and my installer is just ignoring my request to…

Solaredge on Octopus IOF
Hi, Now that Octopus is dropping their fixed export rate it's time to look again at IOF sooner rather than later. When the Solaredge integration was first added there were report of serious problems, I'm hoping these are now fixed. Can any members currently on IOF with Solaredge gear comment on how they're finding it?

Battery performance specs
Regarding BESS does anyone on here have any good experience of batteries cold weather performance and thus recommendations. I know Screwdriver has posted of Tesla Powerwall low temperature specs but wondered of there are any others that are good in that respect. My Pylons are speced only to zero for charging but -10…

Reduced interest payments on FIT TARIFF
When I invested in solar everything was expensive with risks but the 25 year contract encouraged me to invest. Now the Government has seen fit to change the contract this; undermines trust in such schemes and using the excuse most use CPI instead of RPI is weak to say the least. I would hope large institutional investors…

Solar inverter/battery problem
Hello everyone, I'm hoping that someone on here will be able to point me in the right direction. I have a solis inverter with 3 Dyness batteries. About a year ago the battery management system seemed to have failed and the batteries completely drained and stopped storing energy. The inverter started showing the error sign:…

Who to notify?..... DC coupled retrofit battery
I have a 10kWh Growatt hybrid inverter with an 11.44 solar array on 3ph. Export is restricted to 10kWh.on G98. If I add 20kW of DC coupled battery storage, do I need to notify / seek DNO approval? Export is controlled by the existing inverter and batteries are on DC side so any export is controlled to agreed limit.

I am thinking of putting a backup system in place to power the house when we have power cuts, of which there have been a few recently, some lasting several hours. A Shade Greener feed-in tariff solar panels - pigeon problems
I've read most articles on this issue and also reached out to "consumer champions" for help to no avail. My parents got these panels in around late 2014 on a 25 year lease, after being sold the idea by a salesman at the door. They were pretty ignorant of the whole thing and how it would work/be fitted other than the fact…
