Laburnum Tree
Does anyone have an established laburnum tree, and can you tell me if it has blossomed yet (or whatever he correct term is, when it produces the yellow wisteria looking flowers). I have a large laburnum which I think has died. Last year, it produced a small amount of yellow flowers and that was it. It did not leaf or…

Mushrooms in houseplants
I've got a ficus and a rubber plant that I've had for about 3-4 years. I've repotted them a couple of times, most recently late last summer after we moved house. I noticed this morning that both of them have mushrooms growing in them, which has never happened before. The ones on the rubber plant are bigger, the ones in the…

Lawn Scarifers
I’ve done a major clean up around my house this past few weeks, my attention is now turning to my lawn and putting it into shape. I live on the top of a hill, my soil is heavy damp clay, the lawn itself is roughly 12x24 meters and is really in need of some TLC. The lawn has never been scarified and is full of moss. I have…

What is eating my tulips?
Title says it all. Whatever it is has nibbled the leaves and snapped off a few flower stalks. Insects? Animals?

Agapanthus repot or open ground
I've been getting a lovely display each year with them being in a pot and I read that they bloom better when rootbound. However the blooms are getting smaller each year. Should I put them in a slightly larger pot or directly into the ground?I'm reluctant to split them into two pots as I'm trying to get rid of too many pots…

Using electric scarifier
Hi all. I had a new lawn laid last summer - all nicely bedded in now. I’ve given it a first cut this year recently and noticed quite a bit of thatch build up, although grass generally looks healthy. It’s quite a large lawn so I’d like to use an electric scarifier. However, I did use it on a previous lawn and ended up with…

Right name for heavy-duty weeding tool?
When I first took on an allotment, I had a lot of weeds/brush/undergrowth to clear, but I also had a fantastic little hand-tool called a Kirpi which made short work of slashing stuff down, but could also be used as a hand-held hoe for more specific weeding; the outside of the blade was sharpened, with a little hook, so you…

Acidify soil?
I thought I should improve the soil in the flower bed and hoed some farmyard manure into it. On second thoughts that may have been a bad idea as I think that may just make it more alkaline and I really want to acidify it slightly. Is there any point in adding flowers of sulphur now? Or have I just messed up?

Landscaping help please - grouting!
Hi All We have just today had our new patio laid (by a friend who is a landscaper) but to save money we are going to do the grouting ourselves so he doesn't have to drive back up to do it 24h later (as he doesn't live local). We have gone for very light grey (almost white) porcelain tiles but we can't seem to find…

New Decking. Oil or Stain?
We have had some new decking put down. First time thing for us so was wondering what would be best to use on the decking. Is it best to just oil it or is it better to stain it for it's first time coat. There are various opinions on this but just wondered if anyone had any advice on here. Thanks in advance for any help

Fence question
I am designing my garden at the moment, I own the fence to my left and back so not an issue. To my right is the neighbours fence and their responsibility. Their fence has the 'nice side facing their garden' and so I see the 'ugly side' the posts etc. 2 years ago some of their fence was damaged in stormy weather and they…
