Sneering tone
I'm seeing a lot of "nobody told you to fix" posts on here today. The truth is, for many people who "chose" to fix in the last couple of months it was an act of necessity, not a choice. All the noises from the (mostly absent) government and from both leadership contenders was that the price cap would remain, and that any…

Energy price cap freeze? what to do if you've just fixed!?
Hi all, With Truss apparantly about to announce a freeze on energy prices what should we do if we've just fixed? We've just purchased our first house and set up energy bills for the first time (we weren't responsible for them at our previous home our employer was.. long story). We've just fixed with Utility Warehouse for…

Sun claims 4 month freeze on April cap levels.
Seems way too short of a commitment leaving fixers in no mans land as its a gamble if it increases again at end of 4 months. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/19716648/liz-truss-freeze-energy-bills/

HELP - where am I "leaking" electricity?
I trust the knowledgeable members on here can help me out. My wife and I went on a 4 day holiday to North Wales last week - very lucky with the weather - an incredibly beautiful part of the UK. Before leaving, I disconnected many electrical items. The only appliances I left on were our Fridge/Freezer and a smaller fridge…

Best Short Term Option for Electricity
Hi All My fixed term electricity contract is up in October and I'm just looking at what the best option would be. Current estimated usage is stated at 2000kwh of electricity and 7700 kwh of gas. I know that right now the variable rate with the cap will be cheaper than a fixed term option but in the long run that will…

Is it cheaper to use electricity at night
People have been telling me to use things at night ( washing machine) as it’s cheaper? I thought the amount was the same regardless of when you use it 🤷♀️

British Gas Fixed Sept 23V4
Hi all.. I am currently on British Gas standard rate. I have an option to switch the the fixed Sept 23v4 tariff which using the calculator is 145% higher than my current rate, so I am considering switching. What I wanted to know is, is this deal likley to stay in place until the end of September? In which case I won't…

Why aid the focus on citizens turning things off?
Surely, there is a fortune to be reallocated by turning off some of the street lights (and all those lights that shine all night in council and government offices and other public buildings). People might say there will be more accidents (and burglaries?) but when people are about to freeze to death and the economy is…

Should I replace our old fridge/freezer to save energy?
Our fridge/freezer is nearly 20 years old, it would have been an Argos best buy for our first home with our new baby. It still works absolutely fine, but would a new one (probably similar Argos £300 range) use less energy and would the difference be enough to warrant the cost of replacing something that still works?

Price Per Unit - Different Tariff's
My First post on here so be kind  My tariff with E-ON Next is up for renewal in October - I know from reading articles and even listening to Martin this morning on GMB - the general rule of thumb it that the price per unit on fixed rate overall will cost less in the long run, but looking at my tariff comparison this…

Energy rationing
How does energy rationing work in practice? Would it be like a power cut? Wouldn't that mean domestic solar power would also go down? Would it be accomplished via smart metering? Would that mean having an old non smart meter might be an advantage?

Help
Hi all I can't make sense of an email from my energy supplier OVO I currently pay £80 per month for both my electricity and gas. I usually end up having overpaid. The email states OVO needs to put my direct debit up from £80 to £189 per month! That's over 100 pet cent more bearing in mind as I say I usually overpay when…

Switching off overnight
A little while back I calculated that switching off items overnight will save me about £1 per month. I wasn't too concerned and therefore do not run around the house switching off 20 or so items at the wall. With the current increases it may increase 2 or 3 fold so it is now getting my attention. Out of curiosity I would…

Energy rationing
Sunak has just said that fuel rationing is possible in the future Would this affect everyone or would those who are classed as on priority service register be immune from being switched off?

For those who have night storage heaters
Some people get confused about these (NSR) and how they work The supply to them is on a timer, they should ONLY heat up at your cheap rate times (check your tariff) You should have a "Economy 7" type tariff I would suggest switching them off (they probably are anyway) and leaving them 2 days to totally cool down, then…

Very basic question about how boilers work
Hi, with winter approaching I have a very basic question about how boilers /central heating work. Basically I want to heat my water tank for about half an hour before a shower in the morning and half another half hour in the evening so the kids can have a bath. If I do that at the same time as the heating is on is it more…

Wireless / smart TRV's.....Are they worth it?
Hi I'm trying to decide if it's worth the cost of installing wireless or smart TRV's on some of our Rads. We have a conventional boiler (I don't think it's opentherm compatable) controlled by a Nest thermostat. We have 4 bedrooms upstairs which are empty all day but either my wife or I are generally working from home…

£180 a year pilot light !!
This board has been very informative about what appliances consume in energy so thought you'd like to hear my horror story ! We have a 1985 Gas Rayburn Nouvelle range which does the cooking, hot water and heating in a 3 bed detached house. We do love it, but it has really outstayed its welcome and it has to go ! I've…

Energy monitoring plug has just arrived - now what?
Morning’ All, Inspired by the people on here who have made savings with their electricity, I have just bought an energy monitoring plug in my own quest to vanquish any hidden vampires and generally make savings. It is a TP link Tapo smart plug. I’ve downloaded the app, connected it up and it is now merrily blinking away at…

Electric Fleece to keep cozy warm
I think I am right in saying electric blankets don't cost a massive ammount to run. Has anyone tried / used an electric throw / fleece or jacket whilst sat at home watching the world go round..... Have seen plenty advertised. I'm tempted to buy one.
