Unexpected Enormous Electricity Bill - British Gas
We have lived in our rented property for around a year and a half. When we moved in we asked for a smart meter to be fitted for the electricity and were told that we did have a smart meter, it was just an older version. We gave a meter reading, and set our direct debit as suggested by British Gas. We began with high…

Octopus Tracker removal of fixed end dates for Nov 2022 v1
Just so everyone is aware that we had an end date and ours was removed in the last week. Initially we had until May set as our fixed end date. I presume this is to get all tracker tariffs ready for the new formula and shift us all as one onto the new rates soon. I am not sure how I feel about this but if we are all in the…

British Gas Smart meter vs Bills
This is my first post on this forum. I wanted to see if other people have or had similar problems. Brief history- Together Energy fitted smart meters around June 2021, British Gas took us over end of January 2022 when TE failed. They wanted me to pay £575/month D/D. I thought this was excessive ( 1950's3 bedroom semi near…

Octopus Intelligent Go - Smart Charging Schedule & 3 PIN EV Charger
I've just switched over to Octopus Intelligent Go - it took a few attempts for the Octopus app test connection to recognise my EV, but it seemed to get there eventually. I've still just got an 3 PIN charger (still working out if its worthwhile forking out for a full charger) and I haven't quite got my head around how…

smart meter not registering usage
Back in October I realised that my gas meter reading had not gone up, despite gas being used. I phoned ScotPower and they said to phone again in December and a new meter would be sorted. Rang again last week and they say now someone will ring in February to arrange new meter. My worry is they say they will only charge us…

British Gas good billing experience!!
To counter the usual doom and gloom regarding British Gas and their billing antics, I'd like to add a positive note about the change over from the old to new system. (E7, mech meters, vDD payments). Finally received an email during November, that I was being changed from the old system and to provide 'final' old account…

Don't take a Fix !?
With the latest predictions coming in for a very cheap 2024 is it now time to suggest staying on the price cap SVT tariffs rather than fixes? Source https://www.cornwall-insight.com/press/price-cap-predicted-to-fall-by-14-in-april/

Free electric heating for an hour a day Mon-Fri when you come home from work?
Here's something for you to ponder on if you have a smart meter and are opted in to the National Grid DFS savings system..... I'm with Octopus who call them Savings Sessions, and I'm also on the Tracker tariff so I'll use my own rates as an example. All you have to do to get your free electric heating is: 1. Set up a…

The Great Offgem Ripoff
So, you're probably all aware, Offgem want to increase everyone's bills by £16 to pay off other people's energy debts. Now, there will be a mix of people in debt with this, but I expect there are plenty that have not even tried to be frugal, have heated their homes and run up debts whilst likely running up further debt to…

What's been your average electricity price per unit over 2023?
I've a genuine interest in this, as I would like to try and find out which sort of tariff gives the best overall value for money, given that it's becoming increasingly difficult to estimate this just from supplier prices, especially with complex tariffs. I realise there will be a significant difference between one region…

Potential discount for prepayment meter customers
"Households face paying extra on energy bills to cover customers' bad debts under plans by the industry regulator... Under the proposals, households using prepayment meters would not be charged the extra sum, which works out at £1.33 per month. These consumers pay as they go, meaning they cannot build up debt in the same…

EOn Next - renewable electricity change ?
Just reread my Jan price change summary letter from EOn Next - and noticed the PS - which says from 1 Feb 2024 - "Next Flex, will no longer come with 100% renewable electricity as standard". It tells you to go to a "terms" webpage - which says there was a new renewables clause added from Nov - but the download button…

No Economy 7 electricity supply - both storage heater and water heater stopped working?!
Hi so I have Economy 7 electricity with Eon Next and use electric storage heaters and an electric water heater. I have a Smart Meter, but that was installed several months ago and everything has been working without issue until now. Two days ago I noticed that my (very new) storage heater wasn't working. I thought it was…

Disputed gas usage
I’m in dispute with EDF over my gas bill since March. The billed me 120 units -£408 for the period of 1-20 March. I do not see how I can possibly of used this much gas, bearing in mind from 15 Oct through to 11 Jan (coldest months 56 days) I used 174 units -£601. Nothing has changed we only have water and heating on gas…
