BEIS COMMITTEE REPORT - ENERGY MARKET
For those who have an interest in the regulation of our energy market, this well-written report is something of an eye opener. It shows how Ofgem was ploughing its own furrow and ignoring all warning signs in the belief that the risks of supplier failure were small. Regulation was in name only. The most telling point is…

I wish I hadn't followed Martin's advice not to fix my energy deal
A few months ago Martin gave the advice to us all not to fix so at the end of April when my existing deal expired, I allowed myself to be switched onto the variable rate rather than take the fixed deal at £406 per month. I wish I hadn't listened to Martin's advice. With news that prices are going to continue to rise, I…

Well Said Martin
Just heard you on the BBC news sounding off to the government. Well done! I hope the stupid idiots take on board your comments and get their fingers out!!

Metric/Imperial meters and overcharging
This post is just a warning if your energy bills are unexpectedly high (well, higher), and applies if you've recently had your gas meter replaced, though actually might be good to check anyway as some people this has affected have been overcharged for years, and the issue is well known, and ongoing; I've seen cases going…

New Martin Lewis advice for fix deals updated today
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/-are-there-any-cheap--fixed-energy-deals-currently-worth-it--/ In basic terms if you are with Eon(Next), British Gas or EDF chances are you can get an October price cap beating fixed rate but move fast!!! If you are with other suppliers sadly your options are limited.

British Gas and Their Complex Billing
If you can give me an insight I would appreciate it. BG took over my electricity account when Neon Reef collapsed. Since December 2021 I was receiving requests for meter readings all the time, so was getting bills all the time. This came to a head when all my bills were cancelled and one gigantic one was given. It was so…

Energy standing charges
My very elderly father-in-law has been very frugal with his use of electricity following the recent price increases. I was very shocked to discover that most of the total of his most recent bill was for the standing charge rather than electricity used. I understand the reasons why the price of energy has increased but I’m…

Octopus Time-of-Use Tariff Billing
Octopus bills its time-of-use tariff customers on the basis of 30 minute usage not meter index readings. Statements are produced without a meter reading or, occasionally, with just a single register start and finish reading on the statement. Even though the tariff is dual rate, the ESME and IHD just show a single peak…

Payment avoiding Direct Debits
Forgive me if this subject has been covered but this is my first ever post. Martin L has just stated on lunchtime news that their wasn’t a cost effective alternative to have a direct debit to pay for your energy. I have just switched to Octopus Energy for electricity and gas. I am paying my bills monthly in arrears using a…

What are you doing to lower your energy bills?
I have 2 fridge freezers for years, but in view of the high energy prices, I have now moved all the cold food into one and switched the second one off. I plan to use the second one to store items that do not need refrigeration e.g. tomatoes, peppers, eggs, butter and root veg. What are you doing to lower your energy bills?

Wow….free electric????
I know, it won’t end up being the case but I just had to share the shocking experience so far with our energy provider! Completed on our house on 14th April and having collected the keys, arrived at the property to discover that the electrics been disconnected due to property being empty for 6 months and owners not topping…

People's Energy to British Gas customer service
Hi, had been with People's Energy, with no issues. Monthly billing, no problem, statements, no problem. Had £290 surplus. Switched by default to British Gas!!!!! What can I say, left British gas about 10 years ago due to poor service, here I am again. How my heart sank when allocated to British Gas. On line account, works…

What rates are you being offered by your provider at the moment?
With wholesale gas prices at their lowest level since November 2021, we want to know what fixed energy deals you're being offered by your current provider. There are very few fixed deals available to new customers on the market, and those that are tend to be pricey. Yet sometimes we do hear of short-lived 'existing…

Neck Warmers
After many years working on building sites or just doing outdoor electrical work in the winter the one thing I found critical to keeping warm ( whatever other gear I was wearing) was a neck warmer, sometimes called a ‘snood’. Mine are all stretchy single loops of material that you slip over your head. Some thick fleece,…

Landis + Gyr E470 Type 5424 Error Code
Hi My smart meter stopped communicating last September with the IHD and my supplier Bulb. On the actual meter it permanently shows V38.03 10.02 and on the bottom line b2Y5530 neither the A or B button have any effect. I have been chasing up an engineer visit since last year but apparently there is a large backlog. I…

Scottish Power retention Fixed Price Offer
I think it was totally unethical of Scottish Power to have called me just a few minutes ago re my electricity package. I am still on a decent fix till end of April. Then I will move onto the variable cap at circa 28p per unit. Charlatan on the phone offering a 1 year fix at 55p per unit. In what possible circumstances…
