My smart meters are smart again thanks to Octopus
My meters had dropped off the WAN in mid June (with British Gas), so I've not been getting handy usage data* via the Bright App** since. Called Octopus on Monday to initiate a switch. It's now Wednesday morning, and my meters are smart again. The WAN light on the meter is flashing as it should, and I can see data in the…

Just announced the EPG will be scaled back. Between now and April 2023 unchanged but April 2023 onwards no guarantees. A reduction of help is likely but not to the same extent as now.

How to heat a passivehouse with cats
https://c60design.co.uk/many-cats-take-heat-passive-house/ We have three cats in the room and two humans and it’s two degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Just wondering how many more we need. Turns out it’s cheaper to heat with gas.

TIP: How to check your electricity load/drain without a smart meter or monitor
Someone has probably posted this before but it is very useful if you have problems with metering, need to reduce standby drain, or you suspect someone is drawing power from your circuit. If your electricity meter has a flashing red light: As the consumption increases, the time between flashes gets shorter. If you see 1000…

I'm not stupid but I've been caught out about rises in energy prices and the government's cap
I consider myself to be moderately educated and very sensible and more than moderately aware of life and how to manage a home. I'm aware what a price cap on gas & electric prices but that can be confusing to many but not me I feel silly and stupid today having received a letter from my energy supplier. I was shocked to…

Are many missing the point of the £400
In every media article discussing the figures, including Martin Lewis, they all take into account the £400 coming off energy bills. Not spent on other inflation busting things just energy. My question is :- How many are seeing this reduction in their direct debits and actually either putting that £66/67 saving back into…

British Gas sold my personal data to Lowell
I closed my British Gas account in 2016 with a zero balance but 12 months later I was alerted by my bank that BG had attempted to take £95.79 out of my account. I managed to block the transaction and a few days later received a letter from BG advising that they had made a mistake when closing my account and that I owed…

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR THOSE ON ENERGY FIXES
https://twitter.com/MartinSLewis/status/1569719307487027201 All fixes that are more expensive than the new price guarantee rate will see an automatic reduction in Oct (but they will at most only reduce to the level of the new guarantee) So for now DO NOTHING... In the energy summit I had today BG, Shell, Eon, EDF, Ovo…

So Energy offer?
This offer popped up on my So Energy account today. The usage is correct & I’ve accepted it, but I’m sure there’s no way they’ll honour it though. Gas at 3p per kWh? That’d be worth having.

So the CON is in the wholesale price calculation?
I have been "told off" many times for saying there is a con in the way wholesale energy price is calculated but from what Ms Truss said it seems that the frightening chart of electricity rising, almost exponentially, is not the average electricity price but actually a chart of the max price paid for a source of electricity…

As usual, Scots have been ignored and disrespected by this Tory Govt
The price cap of £2,500 on average bills sounds good, until you look at Britain's weather patterns! Scots have days and weeks of sub-zero temperatures while Cornwall is still mild. Naturally Scots have to put on the C/H sooner (like now!) and will keep it running until May 2023. The cap should reflect the additional…

What is a typical household?
Apparently, "for a typical household - one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas a year, and 2,900 kWh of electricity a year - it means an annual bill will not rise above £2,500 from October.". We live in a fairly modern 3 bedroom well-insulated house and only two of us. Our temperature is set to 18C in winter and our usage…

Price Cap - Get Your Crystal Ball Out and Place Your Bets :)
OK everyone, the time has come to get your crystal balls out and give us all your best "final score" predictions.... There's been lots of discussion about the so-called price cap over the last few days and we've now been promised an announcement tommorrow. Without repeating the debate or discussing the rights and wrongs of…

Utility warehouse refusing to allow 14 cooling off period cancellation.
I took up the utility warehouse green energy 39 fix on 30/08/2022, along with the mobile sim and boiler care. I phoned to cancel today 07/09/2022 so we’ll within the 14 day cooling off period but 3 separate customer service agents have refused to action my request as the switch has happened and they are my new supplier.…

New EDF rates for Economy 7 East Midlands
If anyone's interested, I've just checked my EDF account online and it now shows their October 22 rates for Economy 7 in the My Tariff section. For East Midlands the rates are 65.16p/kWh day (up from 35.28p/kWh) and 24.75p/kWh night (up from 13.40p/kWh). The daily standing charge increase from 44.84p/day to 45.86p/day.

A little Win (with the kitchen tap)
Like pretty much everyone - I've been tinkering around with assessment and measurement of what energy we use. We have a mono tap in the kitchen with a swing leaver for hot/cold control (left/right for temp - up/down for on.off). While washing my hands one day it occurred to me that of course, every time we turn on the tap…

Oct 22 Price cap anomaly? Prepayment electric cheapest option?
Looking at the OFGEM figures it appears that the prepayment electricity rates are now cheaper than DD or paying on bill but it's not the case for gas. I've not seen anything announced for the reasoning, anyone got any info? Example for North West DD £1665 SC £1766 Prepay £1655 Not a lot in it but previously prepay has been…
