any handy tips for ebay selling?
I've noticed on various forums people asking for tips on how to get more sales or better prices on ebay and thought that perhaps if anyone has tips to add them on here. I'll start with a few that might help a little, but please add more, 1) despite ebay saying that GTC is the best way to sell things, I don't believe this…

Changes to 'used' categories for clothes
Introducing new conditions for pre-loved clothing ... - UK eBay Community I think a lot of clothes sellers will welcome this change as it is something they have been asking for for a while. It is a minor change, it just allows a range of options for 'used' which will make things easier for buyers to search.

Lovely sellers
I’ve decided, as a buyer, that there’s lots of really lovely eBay sellers out there. I made a lowish offer on some posh skincare products which was accepted. I contacted the seller to thank her for accepting my offer and explained that it was going to be a raffle prize at our pensioners Christmas party. She responded and…

why marketplace can be frustrating
I know we all love using sites that don't carry fees, but sometimes I see the benefit of using ebay and other professional platforms. I've got an item on FB, lets say it is a glass vase, it says 'glass vase' in title and also in title and description it says 8 inches tall. It shows a makers mark to base (nothing…

Lighthearted view of recent eBay seller news.
This typo made me smile: Or perhaps eBay have finally come clean (not that we didn't realise this)?

reminder about seller preferences and non payers
I thought it worth reminding about using your seller preferences to stop serial non payers from buying or bidding on your items. With people reporting an increase in non payers in some categories it is worth reviewing your seller preferences to block as many as you can, let them struggle to find sellers who will accept…

A ‘nice’ marketplace story
Been listing on marketplace again trying to shift some unwanted items which I am giving away for free . Had the usual no shows and time wasters but had a great outcome today. Someone asked for one of my free items and agreed a time, he actually turned up exactly when he said he would- and he gave me a couple of pound coins…

'Rip off Britain' warning
I just happened upon a small segment of 'Rip off Britain' today (26th May) concerning parcels and couriers and thought it might be worth reminding people to check the small print on any service they use. The TV article was odd, they appeared to blame the courier companies for allowing people to send items that were…

Royal Mail barcoding stamps - existing stamps valid only until 31 Jan 2023
Just a heads up - RM are now issuing all definitive stamps with attached barcodes (as I understand it) - presumably this is to allocate each stamp a serial number so it can't be used twice? Also the barcodes can be scanned by eg your phone for advertising messages etc. Existing stamps will only be valid until 2023 so just…

Buyers trying to dictate postage costs (marketplace)
I’m still doing very well on Facebook but sometimes I find the buyers on there can be very irritating. I have a few thin books that can go as a large letter, but are over 100g so can’t go on a basic LL stamp so I quote postage accordingly. Buyer messages to say they want it and they want it posted but they are not paying…

Ruining Someone's Christmas
I've been selling online since Ebay was just fields. Every year there's someone's Christmas I ruin. Often because they order something on December 24th and expect it the week before. I've had the usual round of delays and a couple of foul ups my end. I'll start by saying that the majority of people are lovely, even when…

ebay reducing free listings for private sellers
From the 1st October the amount of free listings for private sellers is being reduced from 1000 per month to 300 per month. https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/fees-private-sellers?id=4822 The main page still links to show the original 1000 that they currently get, there is now a highlighted box that…

protection for sellers
I suspect this might raise some negative comments , but having read a similar plea on a different forum I thought It was worth raising here. There appears to be an ebay purge on serial returners, or buyers claiming an excessive number of INRs at the moment. This is not unusual for ebay, they go years without doing anything…

terrible listings
I do believe that some people misunderstand how selling remotely works. I am just rummaging through marketplace, ebay and also some specialist groups and am finding some very odd listings across all of the sites. Jewellery items on a very heavily patterned dark background, possibly table cloth or duvet cover, in the dark…

Basic Info for Private sellers starting on eBay.
I have noticed a rise in the number of people on various forums asking about selling on ebay for the first time to get some extra money for bills or such like. If there are any newbies reading this (and I have mentioned MSE to a few people) then do consider listing a few bits and pieces this month. If you are new to ebay…
