What should you buy on 15th March?
On March 16th the FOMC meets to determine monetary policy in the US. It's likely to have an interesting effect on many markets. What will you be buying (or shorting) on the 15th March? Anyone fancy a competition? I betting MSE's old favourite silver takes a beating after recent rises.

When to buy holiday euros
I shall need some euros to pay cash for my holiday accommodation in June. I see the rate has declined quite a bit since our holiday last September. Should I buy at the current rate in case the rate goes down further with the referendum approaching?

Why Is A 44 Year Old Man Still Renting?

Some food for Ruggedtoast's soul
Ranty Blog Post Link Ok, in the interest of disclosure, I don't agree with a lot of this but he does make some pretty good points. I think the answer, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle. I do believe young people today have fewer wealth options than of the previous decades. But equally, I know people in London with no…

Oil Prices and Interest Rates.....
....or Why I Stopped Worry and Learned to Love the Germans. For most of the period since 1974, world capital flows have been driven by so-called Petrodollars: US Dollars earned by selling oil (petrol) and then re-invested into the financial system. Petrodollars have enabled a number of things, for example: - Western…

Anyone thinking of selling their BTL?
With all the gloom around is anyone temped to lock in returns? With all the new changes around and stock markets plunging which could be seen as a good indicator of times ahead. I was thinking quite negatively this morning until I heard PM's questions and he continued to reel of all the government incentives, all these HTB…

Nice People Thread No. 15, a Cyber Summer
Welcome to the new Nice People Thread. Since it has been such a long wet and miserable and windy and generally horrible winter I'm laying on a Cyber Summer to remind us that just possibly at some stage we will get some gentle and warm weather! Come sit by my drowsy OH on the virtual patio, there's more chairs up on the…

Is personal tax optional ?
Another week, another tax story from C4 it seems :) This week saw actor Greg Wise invite financial advisors into his home to tell him how paying tax was effectively optional. Two mechanisms were discussed : the use of Trusts and EIS. It seemed clear he could kill off his tax bill should he choose. HMRC didn't bother to…

More "We might do something, maybe" from the BOE
Consumer credit is increasing at record pace (or was last year) so not entirely sure how much faster it needs to increase before they do something. It's also at record highs, well passed the level in 2007. They also seem to be warning that they might do something more with BTL. So seems we've got some more words. Appears…

Add another BTL now or wait after April rush?
I would be interested in peoples views, I appreciate it's crystal ball stuff! So, buy now or wait until things settle down and cough up the 3% stamp duty in the hope that more 1 and 2 beds flats come on the market. I've noticed most of the flats available come tenanted so maybe being an existing landlord could put me in a…

Japanese bonds turn negative
Which, apparently means that investors are paying to hold government debt. Is this significant? Apparently it's the first time this has ever happened to a G7 nation. https://twitter.com/JavierBlas2/status/696968649148669952

40% London HTB scheme
http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/15000-london-renters-in-help-to-buy-stampede-a3175361.html The last scheme of 20% didn't seem to get much take-up but the increase to 40% tax payer backed interest free loans does seem to have worked. Groin thrust time for the builders.
