Late Uncle's will query.
Hi...this is finally coming to a close. His house has been sold. A number of "legacies" have been distributed in the form of cheques. I confirmed with the solicitor's secretary that there was still "residual" money ( from house sale / savings etc.) to be distributed ( to myself & 3 others)...she said that this would be…

Grandmother died, concerns over her assets
Hi, My Grandmother recently passed away, due to old age. We have a rather complex situation which we're trying to get our heads around. My Grandmother should have, for her own wellbeing, been in a care home some years ago. She was perfectly of sound mind, no doubts there, just very immobile and couldn't look after herself…

Joint Tenancy Mortgage - One dies...
Am I right in saying that if one of the people on a Joint Tenancy Mortgage dies, that the house (equity) automatically goes to the person remaining? Even if a Will stipulated otherwise?

Simple Will - how much?
How much would it cost to write a will? It's a pretty simple one, I have a "joint tenant" mortgage and have a Life Insurance policy as well as Death In Service cover through my employer.

Paying forcare home fees if there is a living spouse
Due to a recent family death my OH's siblings are considering investing in a home that either parent could move into if the other had to sell their house to pay for care home fees. I think that a house would not be sold from under a living spouse - am I wrong? Also I am aware of contrived tenancies etc - so would having a…

What to Say in Christmas Cards Following a Death?
My youngest sister died a couple of months ago and now in a quandry about what to say in Christmas cards. For people not directly related I will put what I normally do, but what do I say to my other siblings? What do I say to my sister's kids? Normally I start off with the obligatory "Merry Christmas" ending with "and a…

Advice/comments appreciated
Hi I lost my mum at the beginning of the year. She left a will and named her Solicitor as executer. It goes without saying he is very slow!! Her will stipulated that I was to be left 80% of her house and my sister 20% ( small house worth about 180k). The will had been written 15 years ago after my sister had received a…

What can I do after all this time?
Hi all, I usually post under a different name that is known on other boards, I'm just using this name to ask for any advice on this personal matter. Basically in 2005 an elderly family member died and made my Mum the executor of the will, in which everything was left to her. I presumed that this was all sorted long ago and…

How to find out who the deceased's GP was..
As above really, my dad died and I need to find out who his GP was at the time of his death. We didn't have much contact for various reasons but I was his only child and there's no relatives on his side who might know. Does anyone know how I could obtain this information? I am sure it's something really simple to do, I…
