Missing CCJ
Hi I am looking for advice. I was told by a solicitor working on behalf of Erudio student loans that they took out a CCJ against me. I had forgotten to update my address for various reasons I don't want to go into. Anyway I've been checking my credit files following the advice section on here but none of them mention any…

How do I get my phone number removed from someone else's credit files? For the last few years I have been getting calls for someone else. Apparently I am listed as a possible contact number for this person and have had phone calls from various credit companies and even the police. The person who I am linked to, I used to…

Bank error leading to loan payment default - compensation
Our bank has made an error taking a final loan payment from us and then failed to notify or chase us for a year (I didn’t check as the DD was in place, funds available and we received a statement). We’ve made the final payment now and had the interest wiped, but there’s still the issue of it impacting our credit score. We…

Credit files before mortgage application
I am nearly in a position to apply for a mortgage, but my accounts need tidying up first and I'm not sure what is important and what isn't. I have 9 current accounts all with benefits. I love the benefits (rewards, cash back, savings accounts etc) but would it be sensible to close some and forgo the free money? My longest…

Old Debt - Settlement
If an old debt does not appear on a credit file, does this mean it was originally defaulted, and dropped off file after six years. The reason I am asking is that friend has been on a DMP since around 2004 paying nominal payments. They now want to settle the debt but the debt company states that the debt will reappear on…

Credit check "cool off" period?
Hi all, Today I switched to Nationwide for the £200 bonus and I was looking at the Barclaycard here to do some "stoozing". I haven't had a lot of credit checks in the last year or so and, generally, my credit rating is pretty good. Nonetheless, I know there was a (successful but still) hard credit check by Nationwide.…

Can I stop credit being taken out in my name?
Hello. I wonder if you can help me with this rather odd request. I wanted to know if I can stop credit being taken out in my name? As I say bit of an odd one. About 7 years back my grandson took out a phone in my name without me knowing. He caught the delivery man before knocking at my door (it had to be delivered this…

Credit Karma
I know credit scores are arbitrary and overall I've got great credit history, but the one thing that always "flags" up on my Credit Karma account is that having credit of £15,000 or more will increase my score. Currently it's at £14,500 over 2 credit cards, is it really worth asking for an increase of £500 on one of them?!

Protecting myself from identity fraud and potentially other crimes
It seems that I have exposed myself to identity fraud by carelessly disposing of shredded documents. I have since read that crooks may reassemble documents and use the information for crime. It's too late for me to stop this potential information leak. What should I do now to protect myself? I'm in the midst of a house…

Hi, after many years of keeping up with my payments I found that I had forgotten to pay off the minimum £5 on something which I ordered for £24 (hadn't realised I had used credit as such a small amount I thought I'd paid with debit card). Anyway, I missed the £5 payment on 11th Nov and it will be reported to credit…

WARNING: NextPay T&Cs
This is an important warning to anybody operating a NextPay account to make online purchases and for anyone who regularly makes a purchase with them each month. It isn't made necessarily clear at any point other than deep in the terms & conditions, but if you purchase something for that month, and then return it within the…
