Nationwide switch incentive - direct debits
I have a 'dummy' bank account that I want to switch to Nationwide to get the £175 switch bonus. It's saying I need to have 'two active direct debits'. Does this mean that the direct debits have to have left my account at least once before I do the switch? I've just moved the direct debits from my main account to the dummy…

Problems freezing/unfreezing cards in the Halifax app? You might need to whitelist "tags.tiqcdn.com"
After spending several days wondering why I could only occasionally use the card freezing/unfreezing function in the Halifax app, I finally tracked down the problem. When you use this function, the app tries to connect to tags.tiqcdn.com. If it cannot connect to this domain, it simply won't let you change the freeze status…

High interest accounts with direct debit or Standing Orders
My wife is going into a care home. I have sold various investments to generate enough cash to pay for the care home for a year or two. Now I need to be able to put this money somewhere where it will earn a decent amount of interest, and from where they can suck the money via direct debit. Most savings accounts seem to say…

Odd security question
Several times recently I have been asked a completely pointless security question by a bank (most recently by Co-Operative Bank, but not only them). It's no great issue, but I wonder why the bank asked a question that added no security whatsoever. I was first asked my date of birth, which is a reasonable security question.…
