Loans and shared current accounts
Hi, My boyfriend and I are moving into a house very soon (renting from family). I've always been really good with money and my only debt is a student loan of which I'm paying back way more each month than I need to. So all this is very new to me. I knew my bf had loans, but the extent of it only came to light in January.…

not allowed to draw on cash paid in??????
Hello all, I'm new to this forum, however........... My wife paid £450 in cash, and a cheque for £4600 into her First Direct account via HSBC. On arriving home my wife went to use the internet banking to pay her credit card bill, only for her account not to be showing the cash she had just paid in. On phoning the bank she…

Fed Up with my Current Account
Was with Bank of Scotland, and the merger with Halifax has messed up all kinds of things for me. I've had it, I'm changing. In order of priority, I want: 1. Good customer service. 2. A good interest rate (I pay in a lot every couple of months, then no more until it is gone, but the average balance is pretty high). 3.…

Is it possible to apply for a basic current account with no overdraft, even though you have a poor credit rating and outstanding debt? Would Nationwide turn a person down for example?

Basic Bank accounts
I have a Halifax basic bank account - they dropped the 'Solo' card in favour of the dreaded 'Electron' card, which is next to useless! There has been a great deal of controversy recently in respect of 'decent' basic bank accounts. I am keen to find a better alternative - I need cheque facilities, cashcard and a better…

RBS Cheque Clearing
I have recently paid a couple of cheques into my RBS student current account via a Natwest branch which appear to have cleared after 2 days. I always thought cheques took 3 days to clear  ... not that I'm complaining! Anyone else with a RBS account... how long does it take for cheques to clear? Does it clear quicker…

I have had a Halifax Cardcash account since god knows when. My credit history has been pretty boring but got improved throughout the last year or so. Moving from First Direct...but to where?
I've been (happily) with First Direct for 5 years (i think) but it’s no longer giving me the best deal out there - but having gone through most of the money sites I can find (and even having trawled MSE extensively) I’m still none the wiser as to who I should move to... Citibank or Alliance & Leicester or…

With all the promotional offers for free wine, £25, £35, and £40 etc being offered for opening current accounts, is there any limit to how many you can have? Hi I'm thinking of opening a current a/c with A/L (5.5% interest) but I don't earn £1000 per month. Does transferring £1000 to the account per month fufill the minimum amount or do I have to look for another account? Thanks Kev
