Anyone have experience of a Vaillant VCW 282EH boiler?
I bought a house earlier this month and the gas meter has just been fitted but the boiler isn't working. It's completely dead and won't even attempt to fire up. I'm trying to find an online manual but so far can only find sites where you have to pay £30 +VAT to become a member (I am seriously thinking about this now). I…

New Sunvic Programmer - Issues
Hi all you technical heating gurus... :) We previously had an old-fashioned acl lifestyle lp722 timer, which had limited functionality. We wanted something which allowed 3 on/off periods, and a 1/2/3 hour boost, rather than just an "advance" feature, so bought a new Sunvic timer. Whilst the timer itself is working…

Woodburning stove - eco?
New to this site so my apologies if this has been covered. I have been told there are wood burning stoves that effectively burn their own smoke - creating minimum pollution, is this true? Thanks in advance.

BoilerJuice Tank bank [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]
I placed an order with Boilerjuice on 12/12/10 and the payment was taken by credit card the next day following the group savings. I checked the order to find that they had taken the full amount without the saving and found that the saving had gone into a new thing called the 'Tank Bank'. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] You…

With the cold spell on, I'm trying to think of ways to reduce my energy bill and wanted to know, given that only the living room is in use all day in a 3 bed end of terrace house, is it cheaper to: - keep the central heating on all day at the required temperature ie 20C or - keep the central heating on at a much lower…

How can I reduce our oil bill?
My husband has just had a look at the oil tank and reckons we have used about 195 litres in the last 7 or 8 days which means approx £10/£11.50 per day. We can't afford to keep heating the house when it costs this much. We have lived in our drafty Victorian/Edwardian house for 1 year, and I also can't face the thought of…

Gf's Mum's Boiler broke-any grants/loans available?
Hi there, Unfortunately my gf's mum's water boiler has cracked and subsequently flooded her bedroom. She hasn't been able to pay the last few installments on her insurance (i know, i know!) so is well and truly 'up the creek', so to speak. She works for the minimum wage but is not contracted to full time hours so gets tax…

Warm Front closed to new applications from today.
I've just received an email stating that the Warm Front scheme, which provides home insulation and central heating installation/repair is closed to new applications from today. It looks as if the cold weather has prompted a rush of applications as the 2010/11 fund is now exhausted, but eligible people will be able to apply…

Condensing boiler advice please... Brrrrr!
Hi all. Just when the freezing weather is forecast to return our boiler has packed in! We have no heating or hot water. It's a 4 year old house with a condensing boiler. The boiler was leaking for a while, we called an engineer who said he needs to get to the drain but it seems the builders have fed the drain pipe from the…

Cleaning stove glass when hot.
Is it ok to clean a stove glass when stove is lit and still hot. I kept my stove in overnight for the first time. As the air had been closed down, the glass became quite dirty in the morning. If it is ok to clean, what is the best way to clean a hot glass. Thanks in advance

MARTIN, please do something... LPG price hikes. Ofgem?
Our LPG has more than doubled in three years. I am now paying 53p per litre. It was 23p in Nov 2007. So British Gas is splashed all over the news when there's a 7% increase, what about us, roughly 5% increase last month and another 5% increase this month from BP and they never fill the tanks up before the increase, wonder…

Hi all, I have three small outhouses joined to the main house, they are brick built and cold and contain water pipes that have been freezing at an alarming rate, so I want to heat them slightly to stop any damage - so I thought what about a small paraffin heater! Cheap and would do the job cheaper than electricity and…

Oil Rip Off?
I orderd 1000 litres of heating oil, and paid for it at an agreed price 3 weeks ago. When it was delivered the driver thought I wanted 1500 litres and began to fill up my tank. He realised his mistake and stopped the fill. By then he was 93 litres over. He told my boyfriend that they would just bill us for the extra. I had…
