Rose ID
Can anyone identify the variety of this rose for me, please? I think it’s a climbing rose. It’s about 2 metres high and wide.

Plant ID please
I have googled endlessly to no avail. I think it is a variety of geranium. I really want to know if it is a perennial or not. I got it for free at the start of lockdown from a florist who had left their unwanted plants outside as a free for all. Many thanks.

Foxgloves changing colour
So this new garden of mine. Got a bit carried away last year with empty beds and planted all sorts that I'd seen and desired in other peoples gardens.I splurged on 3 foxgloves, one was yellow, one pink and one cream. To my surprise they overwintered but now they are in flower they've maintained the crowded flowerheads of…

Does anyone know what this plant is
I bought this plant as a seedling from a church garden fete, it was supposed to be a Hellebore. It was just leaves for about 2 years and then the flowers appeared in the winter at the end of last year. not knowing what it was I cut the top off with the flowers when they started dying off. Since then it has looked very…

Rhubarb question
I am baffled. Does any genius on here know why my rhubarb does not go red. I can’t remember the name of the rhubarb but I buy the same one at each house. It definitely is supposed to go red, it’s definitely not a green rhubarb. Each year I give it the benefit of the doubt, too young, next year still young, next year -…

Faulty lawn grower?
I bought some top branded lawn grower (seed, feed and soil enriched) from Homebase at a pretty hefty £20. Followed the instructions to the letter, watered the lawn twice a day with a sprinkler and I cannot see one new bit of grass after 3 weeks, especially in patchy areas. Even prepared the lawn before hand (scarifier and…

Do you know what plant this is?
Hello, I am at it again. This is not in my garden but I want it to be. I have searched high and low and not getting anywhere. It is growing in my son's garden, he and daughter- in-law have no idea what it is and admit to never noticing it before. It seems to be climbing up a tree but I may be wrong. Please don't let it be…

Pyracantha Root - can I cut it?
Hi all,I have a large Pyracantha Bush at the bottom of my garden;
the area in question is currently being redeveloped to create something hopefully a bit nicer, whilst being easy to maintain. I'll be using part of a railway sleeper to create a raised bed. However, Mr. Pyracantha has somewhat inconsiderately placed a root…

Lightfingered greenfingers! Thief took 2 plants but left the containers.
So someone has stolen 2 little apple plants from my windowsill today between 9.30am and 12.30 lunchtime. I'm utterly flabbergasted. I had been growing 4 little apple trees from seeds and they were about 8 months old, they weren't labelled or bought from a shop and only about 7cm tall. I repotted them the other day but i…

Does anyone know where one can get proper slug pellets from now (since the ban was lifted)? The ferric phosphate ones simply don't work.

Old grass seed
It's probably a silly question to ask but does grass seed have a used by date? I spread some old seed that was sitting in my shed for a couple of years on a patch in the lawn about 4 weeks ago and still haven't seen any activity.

Easiest tomatoes to grow in UK for beginner.
Hi all At the start of lockdown I bought some tomato seeds and compost etc and set off 24 tomato plants in my shed. Surprisingly they have now grown to 6” but I don’t know what to do next... Having watched a few YouTube videos I have seen that there are over 7,000 tomato varieties. Unfortunately I threw the packet away so…

To paint or not, wooden garden furniture
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but nothing came up in a search and it seemed the most likely place to get this advice.I have an old, much loved wooden bench that I painted with waterbased garden furniture varnish. Looked good for 3 yrs with a top up. The wet however seems to have got under the varnish, and mould in…

Gnats and Midges
Hello, I hope that someone can assist with a super idea to solve my problem. We have our garden set out and, at the far end, we have a gazebo with furniture under which is lovely to sit out on a warm day because of the shade. There is tall hedging around the hard standing area and the area is mostly just a delight. We have…

Struggling to get my compost pile to heat up
I've got a compost area at the bottom of the garden - 3 large bins made of slatted wood - each bin about a square cubic metre. I'm new to composting so up until 6 months or so ago was just throwing green and brown material in without worrying too much about it. Of course, in so doing I've been adding loads of green…

Shoots from base of tree.
I have a tree that I planted over 10 years ago with lovely soft green silvery leaves. I think it is a Whitebeam. Anyway, at the base it looks like it was grafted and this year it has sprouted shoots. The leaves on these shoots look like beech. Would it have been grafted onto a beech? Would I be able to take these shoots…
