5 foot posts but want a 6 foot fence
Our back fence is 5 foot but we are taking down some trees and will need the fence to be 6 foot for privacy. The concrete posts are well firmed in and it would be a nightmare to take them out. We could put up a completely new 6 foot fence in front of it, but it might look horrible from my neighbours side. Someone has…

Recommend me an artificial grass
Im looking to replace my very worn turf/grass with artificial grass, but there seems to be thousands on the market, and all different prices. I'm after about 38 m2, and not too fussed on price (within reason, happy to pay up to £20-£25 a m2). Can anyone recommend a good brand/make, or realistic one please? Will be laying…

How to stop slugs munching my strawberries WITHOUT using slug pellets
Anyone know of a way? Does putting straw under the strawbs help keep our slimy friends off them or does that just stop the fruit from getting muddy? I don't want to use slug pellets in case one of my bunnies gets into the strawberry patch (it's fenced off but occasionally they find a way in) and eats them, but also, if a…

Did anyone go for the lavender bundle deal as featured in the MSE email?
See here: Click me Well, I placed my order on 22nd July but haven't had any confirmation from the company, Park Promotions UK Ltd. All I have is a PayPal receipt: "You sent a payment of 6.65 GBP to Park Promotions Uk Ltd." I haven't received my plants yet, but wondered if anyone else has. It concerns me that they're…

Advice please: do I use a fungicide or a pesticide
The plants I recently put in last week are already showing signs of white powdery mildew and there is also white markings (like little lines) on the underside of leaves so unsure if this is connected. I don't know what kind of spray to treat this with so that I don't lose the plants (which happened with a honeysuckle).…

What's wrong with my tomatoes?!
Hello everyone I currently have three tomato plants growing outdoors, and one of them has started to look rather unhappy. It has quite a lot of fruit on but some of them have, over the past few days, started to look rather unhappy - with brownish, wrinkly skins. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for looking!

Bind Weed
Well firstly thank God it's not that Japanese Knotweed. But anyway, Bind Weed. It's grown pretty damned fast, in 3 weeks it's pretty much wrapped itself around loads of other bushes, plants and trees (even double backing on itself in some cases). Pretty white flower aside this is pretty nasty stuff isn't it? I read it…

Gallant soldier weed control
I've gotGalinsoga ciliata/Gallant soldier weeds in my vegetable plot. They arrived I think through store bought compost maybe 8 years ago. I spread the compost and then had to go overseas for 3 months and when I returned these weeds were 3 feet or so high and the seeds pods were dry and when I tried to pull them up the…

Tomato damage
Has anyone got any idea what's done this to the toms please. Hubby went out and watered them at about 10 am yesterday morning and they were fine, watered them again at about 8 pm last night and they were like this. They are in growbags in a greenhouse, the door was open and they were at the bottom of one of the plants.

Coffee grounds on young fig?
As above - advice please. The fig, a cutting from friend's big established tree, has taken off well against front brick wall, in day-long sun [if and when]. If ex-waitrose coffee grounds are not for it, suggestions please? Oak, Walnut, Eucalyptus, Elderberry, various fruit trees, soft fruit canes are other candidates.

Weedkiller that burns the hell out of them?
Hi, I spent around 6 hours scraping out the weeds between the slabs on my driveway (it's comprised of 3 large concrete slabs) and there's is a good half an inch gap between each slab. Because there's a large gap the weeds fill the void and when I scrape them out sometimes the roots are left behind because I can't get down…

I have a cracked concrete path at the back of my house outside my dining room and kitchen patio doors which floods a bit when it rains which needs removing. How to remove brambles in hedge
Hi, I have a conifer hedge on my boundary which is very overgrown with brambles. Last year I cut them down to ground level and removed what roots I could reach but some shoots are very thick, very established and very difficult to remove. I've heard that a weedkiller like Roundup would be good for killing the brambles if I…

Borage
Recently I bought two borage plants and put them in the same bed although about six feet apart. One is like the oncoming Triffid, huge stems, huge leaves and multi-flowered bunches (didn't realise that the plant is spiky), the other shot up, gave me one bunch of little flowers and is now stunted and looking just miserable.…
