Solar array 50/30kw viability
Just trying to work out the viability of the following scheme. Keep reading that the ship has sailed and am sure it is no longer a show stopper but I got the returns to not look disastrous. So flat roofed agri/commercial building approx 350m2 roof, facing SW. Initial calcs say around 50kwh worth of space available but…

Inverter outside issues
I think i may have made a mistake locating my inverter outside. I asked for it to be outside as i didn't want the potential for malfunction to be a danger, fire risk, sound travel through internal walls, heat dispersion or air flow to be issues. I also intend to install a battery storage solution and also did not want that…

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Electricity
I see that one company is now offering V2G for appropriate vehicles like my Nissan Leaf. At a possible £300 - £800 per year's worth of payments, the return on investment will only take 10 - 30 years before any profit is made. I think I'll stick with my Tesla Powerwall 2 for personal use.

Solar PV meter problem, EDF hopeless
Wondering if anyone can help me sort this out, it's been a bit of a long running saga since we had solar PV fitted in April. Sorry for long post... I moved to EDF soon after as my fixed rate dual fuel tariff was coming to an end. (Feed In tariff is with Good Energy). I called EDF soon after I joined as I'd noticed the (old…

Veg box quantities Riverford/A&C
The local company I used to get my fruit and veg box from no longer delivers to my area so looking at trying out Abel & Cole for a month (mainly because I have an offer code), then Riverford to see which I like best. As there are never any approximate quantities, either in weight or number, of each item delivered on the…

Reducing waste, with objective of zero waste?!?
Anyone else trying to reduce the waste that they generate. I've always been interested in environmental issues, but have found that my actions don't match my views. My natural personality is a bit like a minimalist womble. That is I hate waste, like things to be re-used, but don't like to hoard or keep things. I guess I…

Solar phase II
We currently have a 4kw East/West installation (2kw each side) and we've just ordered a further 1.8kw (6 x 300w panels) for a shallow incline roof on a workshop building in the garden. The main inverter is 3.8kw and the new inverter will be 1.5kw, so a combined 5.3 Kw system. As we're over the limit for our single phase…

Solar Plants (Reposted from Energy)
Back in 2010 I had solar panels installed and, until last year, they were brilliant. Investment cost recovered by year five so everything from there on was money in the bank - or so I thought. Last August the inverter failed. Repairing it was more expensive than replacing it so I got a new one with a five year guarantee.…

Diverter and underfloor heating
Just thought I would share my experience of installing UFH in our kitchen. My diverter is the immerSUN and I have tried various set-ups with it (well them actually as I have two). But as part of our kitchen refit we have gone tiled floor and electric UFH - all 1.8kW of buried heating cable. I logically thought immerSUN but…
