Erroneous readings from bust suppliers
TL/DR version My electricity supplier is using a debt from previous suppliers that have gone bust (toto and solarplicity) to calculate my bill. The debt was (at least partially) accrued before I moved in and seems to be based on years of estimated readings. Records may be hard to access or lost entirely. Any advice? Full…

Moving house, how soon can you switch energy supplier?
My daughter and partner have moved to a new house that is currently supplied by Shell Energy. What is the correct procedure to switch to an energy supplier of their choice? Do they need to register with Shell Energy first? Or can they just make a switch application immediately? There are SMETS1 meters installed (Secure…

Zog - Smart Meters
Back in 2017, I had my SM installed by SP. I am assuming they are SMET 1 meters, as no other supplier has been able to take readings from them. YE went bust and I have moved my gas over to Zog. On 31 Jan, I went onto Zog's website and gave a meter reading. Today, I have just attempted to give a meter reading of 2123 to be…

Cheapest electricity rates and Storage heaters
Hi My tariff for economy 10 is going up to 13.5p cheap rate and 21.5p day rate. I have looked a little online, but just wondered how much the cheapest standard rate is? I'm wondering if its anywhere near 13.5p? This may not be possible, but with a cheaper 1 rate standard rate, I am thinking could it be possible to have my…

Over Charged by EDF £9000
We have a small property company that has been overcharged by EDF over a two year period. We bought a HMO that we only had to pay bills for the communal areas. We called EDF to set up a contract but were told we we couldn't do that as there was money owing on the account and to wait for a bill. We didn't receive a bill…

Smart Meters
Appreciating that meter readings will automatically be sent to the supplier. However, I like to read my own once a month. Can someone tell me how to read these new electricity and gas meters? Seems that the instructions are on the gas meter. Many thanks.

Ex Yorkshire Energy Scottish Power Energy Exclusive Tariff
Hi, I'm an ex Yorkshire Energy customer now on Scottish Power's Energy Exclusive tariff for ex YE customers only. If I compare the tariff to other current deals at the moment the most I can save is about £45 over the year. The Energy Exclusive tariff says it has no end date, and there is no further details to say if the…

Are Prepayment customers being excluded by the new energy challengers?
Uswitch/ Which? recently announced their supplier of the year awards (Octopus/Pure planet) and neither of their choices seem to openly supply prepayment customers, and this goes unmentioned in the reviews... Looks like prepayment customers are once again being forgotten about and excluded from the best deals. Surely in…

Renewal but gas meter broken
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. My gas meter display has failed and shows nothing on the screen so I've been on estimated bills since 2nd Nov 2020. I had a date for meter replacement but it got cancelled because they said Scottish work restrictions did not allow unnecessary works only essential…

Energy Company Withholding Money
Hello I am in credit with my energy company with a balance of £1070. They have told me a refund will take 60 days. My energy bills are £100-£120pm, I pay £150pm all year round so when my bills fall in summer to £70ish I am gaining credit so I don't have to worry in winter. This has accumulated to £1070. I have been with…

British (Scottish) Gas Smart Meter MPRN for Switching Energy Suppliers
Signed up to MSE Club energy switch and found a good deal, but signing up requires the MPRN number of the gas meter. This was changed in Oct 2020 to a Smart Meter, and the Scottish Gas Statements showed the previous Meter number and the new one. However the new one is a huge code that wasn’t recognised by the form. I tried…

Octopus AGILE and other tarriffs tied to wholesale rates.
Hi - Has anyone been following the Texas freeze fiasco? One of the problems was that many users were on tarrifs like Octopus Agile which is tied to the wholsale rates for electricity. Which is great in normal times. During the freeze the Texas unconstrained wholesale pricing system put the prices up 70% or more and passed…

Martin Lewis in £100 hike in energy bills. What about Bulb?
Im currently with Bulb which is a veri fair tariff. I realise that a lot of energy companies have announced a massive price hike but im not sure how this effects the type of tariff that Bulb offers? Do I try and jump ship now? Bulb is still the 4th cheapest when I do a comparison with the cheapest only being £2 a month.

Switching supplier trouble - direct debit taken without a bill
I'm in the process of switching away from Avro Energy to EDF and it's been troublesome to be honest, i did this via Uswitch and was told it would be mostly automatic, but i've had a constant barrage of emails from both companies asking me to provide readings, some of which their system says can't be accepted because i sent…

Repayment plan set-up - but taken full amount in one hit.
I had a debt with EDF because the usage was way beyond the estimate. It was about £1200 initially, it's now down to about £620. I spoke with them in November to reduce my repayments due to being made redundant, we agreed I would pay my ongoing bill plus £20 per month for 12 months whilst I got back on my feet with a new…

New EDF standard variable charges for gas?
I know they're going up 1 April. But, does anyone know what they'll be per kWh and day? My online EDF account account, as of today, says 3.44p per kWh and 26.6p per day, which are 10% and 2% increases respectively on my January bill. But, the Which? switch website today says the rates are 3.624p and 31.217p. I could phone…
