    The current state of play

As you'll no doubt be aware by now, Argos aren't honouring this offer. I think this is a 'take it with a smile' case. The law isn't on side here (see my Guide to Consumer Rights that explains it)

This sites motto is "we spend our lives being screwed by companies for profit, this site is about (legally) screwing them back". Yet here this wasn't a loophole caused by targetting ignorance, apathy or inertia, it was a simple mistake. MoneySavers had a go - nothing ventured nothing gained, but its a balance. No one genuinely thought the price was real, so i think step back and smile.

    For newbie MoneySavers

If this is your first trip to MoneySavingExpert.com, welcome. This site is all about how to get the best deals on anything and everything. Both in the main site (detailed researched articles on a huge range of subjects) and this forum where thousands of MoneySavers help each other find bargains

This site has no ads and is completely free to use .

How to start MoneySaving at speed

Scan through the articles of course!!!! But more important is that each week I send out a free Money tip email (no ads, no spam and your email is never passed on) with scores of ways to save money.

This is crucial as much loophole spotting, best deals and bargain are short lived. Take a look at old tips here, or just add yourself to the distribution list. Also each MoneySaving method in the tip is checked out for legitimacy (this 49p loophole was excluded from the tip, as my strong suspicion was this'd happen)

Would they honour the price though - or would you have to pay full price?

Can't afford one at full price and nervous to order it

    I've gone for it.

Although found this on their terms and conditions:

4.2 The price you pay is the price displayed on this website at the time we receive your order apart from the following two exceptions:
    a) For products reserved online for store pick up or any other reservation service the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection.
    b) While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors may occur. If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you we will treat the order as cancelled. If you cancel and you have already paid for the goods, you will receive a full refund.

So it's only if they discover a pricing error.

Not possible to reserve for store pickup. No way it will be honoured but worth a try!

I've gone for this (although it's a long shot) - points to note from the t&c's

Acceptance of your order and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place on despatch to you of the products ordered unless we have notified you that we do not accept your order or you have cancelled it (please refer to Returns and refunds).

    From the t & cs

2.2 The 'confirmation' stage sets out the final details of your order. Following this, we will send to you an order acknowledgement email detailing the products you have ordered. Please note that this email is not an order confirmation or order acceptance from Argos.

2.3 Acceptance of your order and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place on despatch to you of the products ordered unless we have notified you that we do not accept your order or you have cancelled it (please refer to Returns and refunds).

4.2b) While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors may occur. If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you we will treat the order as cancelled. If you cancel and you have already paid for the goods, you will receive a full refund.

I have just done it, doubt very much if i will get it, but i will kick off big time if they charge me 300 odd quid for it, i think they will just cancel the order!!

feel a whole b&q thing going on again with this!!!

i only ordered the one as i noticed when people ordered loads of things on mis-prices they dont get them but the people who just ordered one sometimes got lucky. this would be great for my bedroom!!!!
  • Binxy
I've tried searching for previous misprices and haven't had much luck.

Is it hit and miss? I mean - what are the chances of a human being spotting the error?

I once ordered some PS2 speakers for £50 from a certain other company (daren't say who!) and they sent me a new ps2 instead! How they managed that I don't know - invoice and everything said speakers.

I'm rambling. My point is - mistakes happen/get ignored - maybe it's possible with this................. Please everyone don't order like 50 or something and draw their attention to it!

Be clear about this. They cannot charge you more than they said on the website without your agreement. As per their T&C's they will either a) ring to let you know of the pricing error and give you the option to cancel or proceed at the higher price or b) not notice and let you have the product at the advertised price. The chance of the latter is 0% given the amount of people ordering in the last 30 minutes will easily show up on the system.
  • Kazzea
There is no way they will not notice the error when they see a massive jump in the sales of this product
  • leonie
I ordered just the one as well. I think this way you have far more of a chance than trying to be greedy and get loads!
  • scrooge mcduck
given there is a 21 day lead time for delivery, it is highly unlikely they're not going to spot this misprice

ordered, thanks, hope they honour it!!

YEP.. I agree, the 21 day wait .. whilst 2000mse people order it.. and some of them in quantities of 100, will stop it ever getting anywhere.

    Its a 99.9999% certainty.

Argos wouldnt even be able to get the stock if they wanted in that volume
    Be nice
  • hippypixie
I agree with Searcher2, theres no way they can charge you more without permission, they'd just cancel the order. But the will most certainly spot all these sudden orders out of the blue, so I doubt we will get it....but it was fun trying!

I'm sorry I have to disagree! We've had experience of Argos before and there is a 100.000000% certainty that they won't sell at this price!
What they will have is a lot of staff busy cancelling orders today and tomorrow though - especially those where people ordered 100 as I'm sure they will have.
Has anyone called them up yet to check whether 49p is the correct price
