Anyone use a steam press for ironing?

Hi all
I seem to have bags full of ironing where-ever I look! I've got a steam generator but still find it takes ages and is boring.
Anyway I've seen those steam presses and wonder if they are any good?
The blurb says you can do a cotton top in seconds because it only needs two presses... thats enough to sell it to me lol!
Are they worth the money or will it end up in my 'why did I buy that' cupboard?
Thanks guys

Hi,
My mum has a steam press and she let me borrow it as she insisted it would be quicker for me...
... I hated it you spent so long faffing around preparing the item to be pressed - that I would have been quicker with the (steam generator) iron.
tbh I think she has had it over a year and I am not entirely sure she has actually used it... I think she thought it was a great idea at the time.
Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear - I hate ironing too but a wide ironing board and a good steam generator make it easier. Although I have already had 2 steam generators die on me - I just wish they would last a bit longer!!!0 -
I'm glad you've asked this Angelina, i am desperate for a steam press, i used one last week at a friends house, it was so easy. We did duvet covers, pillowcases, jeans etc, the press made it really quick and actually quite enjoyable.
Someone is selling them on ebay for £59.99, i think its called prosteam anyway it retails on qvc for £109.99. If anyone has bought this model please can you say if its any good...thanks jess0 -
Thanks for the replies. A mixed response there...
Jess I dont know the model you are talking about but have a good look around before sticking with that one. The full price is only £109 whereas I've noticed the Domena ones go for between £40 and £80 yet the full price of those is over £200.... Surely as the RRP price is almost double it would be a better press?
I'm very interested in getting one!0 -

I have had one for a while now. I wasn't that impressed the first couple of times but now I swear by it. Great for trousers and shirts - which is what it is mostly used for. I have still got the old iron somewhere but I am not 100% sure where it is.....
I would replace it if I broke it. Without hesitation. We would eat beans for a month if need be!
This is my one : http://www.sewingmachinediscount.co.uk/home/productzoom.asp?pid=1877
Was £100 or so from Tesco direct. My MIl has used one that is a roller type one and she said it was awful.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Hmmm shirts you say?
Thats the one thing that seems to give these presses the mixed reviews. Loads of people say they are great for everything except shirts, then other people swear by them!
I wonder if its like you say and it takes time to learn the right way with shirts.
My two main ironing hates are jeans and shirts - both of which I have loads that need doing.0 -
I was really rubbish at doing DH work shirts but manage really well now. I guess it depends on how much attention to detail you pay and how perfect you want your shirts to be - I am on the near enough will do approach. You can get ones with sleeve attachments.
Jeans are easy with the steam setting. Unless of course you use Miltons instead of distilled water and steam lovely circles up the back of black Levi 501's.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Something else to store I suppose. I don't iron towels, bedding, tea towels, t-shirts in the winter, hoodies, underwear...... might be easier to list what I do iron. school and work shirts get a quick swipe, legs of jeans, my linen trousers (staple wardrobe in the summer). Such a slovenly person I am!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

That would make a fab design feature! You could bung some embroidery and beads on it! Would only want to do this with an old iron though LOL!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
