Might be of interest, take a look at iWeb, operated by Halifax share dealing. £5 a trade how ever many trades but they charge £2 for a trade plan, (buy or sell order) which you don't have to use as you can quote and deal instead. They also do overseas dealing with a 1-1.5% exhange rate fee.

You can also look at Chalres Schwab, but you need a $ account for this, $10k (£6450) deposit and just $8.95 a trade which is about £5.80 (ex rate at $1.55).

Hi

I hold some shares with RBS that I purchased a few years ago via TD Direct Investing. I haven't seen any increase in the value of my shares (I knew the risk when I purchased them) however I must have paid TD Direct Savings about £120 now for holding them with them.

I just got a letter today to tell me I owe them another £40 and am wondering if there isnt an alternative? Can I not just hold them with RBS and bypass TD? I find it all a bit confusing.

They will charge a fee on top of what you already owe but it'll help avoid future charges

Thanks, I had tried the high street banks but they all seem to charge.

Looking back through this thread I have found some good links and my choice is now between Computershare and FirstDirect as both of these are free and I don't know of any of the other companies. Probably going to go for FirstDirect although it will require I open a current account.

i have some questions in relation to corporate actions.

- how often would FTSE 350 listed companies do rights issues, takeovers, open offers and tender offers?

- what is the chance of a FTSE 350 listed company getting involved in a take over and give a cash pay-out to the shareholders?

- is it always a good deal for a shareholder to take new shares under rights issue?

No right answers there. Those things are much like shuffling the pack, its still the same game of poker afterwards

If a company does a cash payout to shareholders or dividend its worth is no different. All that happens is the shares are worth 1p less and people now have that as cash, in total they are no richer and the company has less money on the accounts.
A rights issue is roughly opposite, they take money from shareholders and put it on the books
