Exchanging large sums for living abroad 13th Feb 18 at 2:13 PM
    Hi,

I am going to Japan in a couple of weeks and need to bring along a large amount of Yen in cash (working there for a year, need approx. £5000 for initial rent, start-up costs etc...). Does anyone have experience on the best approach to this, and are there any rules/limitations that I should be aware of?

    Thanks for your help.

You're fine taking 5k.It's not a particularly large amount.
    Just take usual security precautions.

I shall make the usual comment that you will get a far better exchange rate by using a decent debit card at an ATM there than you can possibly get by carrying cash.
