    Weekly Flylady Thread 12th February 2018 11th Feb 18 at 8:55 PM
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Valli for last week's thread

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Thank you Natty. And Valli for last week.

Happy Birthday Natty. Sorry for you loss. Hugs xx

I'm going to make a concentrated effort to get the dailies done daily this week as I'm on Annual Leave the following week and want to make headway with H2H.

Mr T will be delivering lots of healthy food stuff tomorrow evening, so that'll get the slinky challenge back on track - I need to cut back on bread and eat more fruit this week.

Best wishes to all for a peace filled week.

Sorry for quietly fading into the woodwork last week - half-term now, so I'm in.

Thank you for the freds, Valli and Natty.

The room most desperately in need of attention is the kitchen, so that's where I'll start tomorrow, as well as playing with laundry (which will involve stripping a couple of beds). I won't post a to-do list, because that seems to be the best way to guarantee that things don't get done. No idea why! I'll just add things once I've done them.

I'm not in because I'm not at home.. but I am here lurking, kinda, regardless.

No scales here so rather looking forward to getting home BUT was 10lb off as of Saturday.. The scales here say 3lb less which is very nice but they are not digital ones and they are on carpet so I don't think they are very reliable.. so I will wait until I get home.

I am STILL sneezing with no indication of a cold so I am almost convinced it is the smoking that goes on here irritating my sensitive sinuses, coupled with strange animal fur and various air fresheners.. but my poor snotter is dying and Twinkle has the same problem and Dot isn't looking much better.. but none of us have cold symptoms just this streaming nose and eyes.. and mine responds to antihistamines!

OH was asked to cover until close so he took it.. pointless him being home if I am not so he has 3 extra hours pay which is a bonus.. he is in 8-4 tomorrow too which he is not happy about.. he has never had an 8am start before and he isn't looking forward to this one but he will at least hopefully be back here to tuck the pests in bed tomorrow night.

    Hi All

I am in this week, been missing in action, blasted black dogs attacked me so was only doing the minimum but some sunshine and 15lbs weight loss since beginning of the year is helping to bring me round, doing SW properly works.

Only doing half days today and tomorrow at paid stuff so looking forward to getting ahead of the game.

Yesterday I did 4 wash loads and all except jeans were line dried, although had a major gathering operation when it snowed for 10 minutes. Using the tip from here, if the ground is dry hang it out and it certainly worked.

DS and his GF are off on a Caribbean cruise on Wednesday with her family for her Mum's 50th, lucky so and so's. Only a teeny weeny bit very jealous.

Sausages for breakfast baking in the oven, small beans watered with chocolate milkshake (it is the holidays...) animals fed, DW emptied, reloaded and on, coffee delivered to still-snoring hubby and now contemplating washing my hair...

Master bedroom isn't too bad, so today I may not fail...

    Happy burpday for yesterday Natty

    Love to all xxx

    Morning all

Level 1 done! (well, not quite - the bedlinen is still in the WM)

And progress has been made on the essay, as one of the books I got out of the library yesterday has turned out to be very readable and useful. Just got to keep the momentum going now...

Catch up later. Hope everyone gets some of the glorious sunshine and blue sky that we have here atm, though it's cold and frosty too x

Good morning, it's cold and very frosty here.

Half term week here, so work days are being juggled and re-jigged to fit around. Obviously as today is now a non-paid stuff day, I was awake at 6am. So towels are just finishing in the wm, dw has been emptied, and clean washing has been sorted. Just finishing my second cuppa, then I must crack on for a couple of hours before delivering DD to town to meet her friend, and then ticking off a couple of errands and appointments.

Back later, have a lovely day everyone.

Good morning, Thank you both for the lists. I haven't posted for 2 weeks, I haven't been in too good a place, so no flying.

I'm going to give it a go today though!

I can't do today's list, DH in bed after a night shift and wouldn't be happy. So i'm going to look back at last weeks list and choose a day, I think kitchen might be a good place to start.

Sympathy card written: DH has gone out to post it and deliver goodies to the CS

He has just cleared a load of his books off 3 of the LR shelves as we are having a bit of a change-round. I shall be moving books from 3 more shelves too - but not this week: before that can happen I need to get new shelves for my study , which involves first moving the keyboard down to the spare room, which involves first changing a sliding door to a hinged one and shifting a wardrobe and CoD into the corner and having some shelves put up

Onwards and upwards... still planning to take Rosie to her class this afternoon, as I shall need a break and she will need an outing anyway (and I've paid in advance!). Catch up later x

I've just done half hour in kitchen.
    Loaded washer
    Emptied dishwasher
Reloaded dishwasher with breakfast pots and things that wouldn't fit last night.
Cleared one worktop and wiped it, thrown a whole bag of rubbish from it, wiped small appliances on it, wiped doors above and below it.
    Emptied bin.

Made a call i needed to, decluttered a cup of tea and going to get showered ready for work. Will see if i can do more later.
