Britannia/Co op mortgage can we claim ppi/plevin? 6th Feb 18 at 4:13 PM
    Hi all

So in 2008 we took out a 100% mortgage with britania for a shared ownership property (not sure if that is relevant but thought I'd give all the info)

Anyway I remember saying yes to the ppi as with a young family we wanted the protection but I do remember never being told that we could get a policy like that from another company. We were made to feel that the only option to protect the mortgage payments was through the protection they sold.

Anyway I'm not overly fussed as it's a good policy to have, not sure if we could have got it cheaper elsewhere as never knew to look.

After watching Martin Lewis show last night I'm wondering whether we should look into a claim under the plevin ruling?
Obviously like most people we don't know what the commission was or who the insurer is as it's just gets added on to our monthly payments.

So my question is 1)is this relevant to plevin? 2)should I be trying a claim? 3)will if effect my relationship with the mortgage company?

Mortgage protection is a generic term covering all types of insurances that may be used with a mortgage. Many life assurance providers call their life assurance "mortgage protection."

but I do remember never being told that we could get a policy like that from another company.
As there is no requirement to do that, you would not expect to be told that.

We were made to feel that the only option to protect the mortgage payments was through the protection they sold.
As you would expect from a tied salesforce

Whole of market/IFA products do tend to be cheaper and better quality.

A 2008 sale falls under MCOB rather than the CCA and Plevin does not apply to those.
