Probate property purchase 5th Feb 18 at 8:06 PM
I am in the process of purchasing a bungalow which is a probate sale. The executor has explained that if the deceased could get a government grant for anything in/on the house, she got it! Amongst other things, one of those grants was in relation to EWI 'external wall insulation' which covers all walls of the property. The problem is, despite an extensive search of the deceased's paperwork the guarantee(s), and indeed no associated paperwork, can be located. As it was initiated in conjunction with a government grant, does anyone know how to recover the guarantee(s), where I could apply for it, etc., please?

There may (should) have been a Building Regs notification for the work, so the local council may (should) have a Building Regs application which is likely to have been made by the contractor and so will show their name as agent for the owner.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

but ensure you get adecent survey, and specifically ask your surveyor to comment on the cladding/EWI.

Many of these were installed inappropriately in the rush to take advantage of free government money......

Yes, G_M, he said he cannot see anything at fault with the EWI but to seek out the guarantees.
