BA Executive Points Expired 2nd Feb 18 at 9:18 AM
Over many many years I have been collecting via Tesco Clubcard points/money and other ways BA Executive. I wanted to save enough for a special business class trip with my wife for a special birthday or anniversary. I collected over 200k which would be enough.
I logged into my account today to find my balance as 0 and my points had expired. WTF

I think this is an absolute disgrace tbh and not sure why they should expire.

Is there a way to get these back?

    Thanks.

You have to earn or spend 1 avios in 3 years to keep your points alive. If you've been collecting clubcard points and transferring them over, they should be alive. Even if you waited until the clubcard vouchers were about to expire after 2 year, you would still be within the time frame.

Ouch - that's a harsh story. They won't credit them back unfortunately, stating their T&Cs and the fact that even a single transaction within 3 years would have kept them alive. No harm in asking, but don't expect anything.

Technically they were never yours which is why they can do this.

Are you sure it's not just a bug if you had activity in 2016 ?

They are pretty good about emailing you warning that points are about to expire, so it should have been possible to avoid this tragedy. If they failed to warn you then you might have some grounds for appeal, but you don't have any rights so be sure to ask politely rather than demand.

Not sure if that was from Eon or Clubcard transfers.

do you have both an Avios.com account and a BA Exec account?
"combine my avios" is generally used for moving points between programs (Avios, BA exec and Iberia) I cannot see reference to EON with BA Exec Club but can see it with Avios.com...
Are you sure the Tesco moves were to BA Exec Club and not Avios.com?
if your points went into an Avios account and then were transferred to BA Exec, this does not count as 'activity' to keep the points live

I do think they've really gone, pity the cut off was only a month ago - had you looked in early Dec you could have saved them. Harsh lesson learned - but do give BA a try as it's basically only a month out.

Combine my Avios is not spending or earning. Spending a tesco clubcard voucher on Avios is a spend that will count. So if you last did this in 2016 you would be fine.

Could it be that you used the clubcard vouchers to add Avios to an avios.com account and then combined them (ie moved them over) to a BA exec account? That would explain things.

I don't know why you would do that, as there is nothing to be gained by going via Avios.com to your BA exec account.

Combining Avios does not count as activity, must add from an external source such as Tesco.s

I lost a 1000 Avios on daughters a/c last year, phoned and said if i credit within two weeks can have back

Have you actually spoken to BAEC? It's surely worth a phone call to them, as others have pointed out, they've operated by the terms of the scheme.

However, they may well offer a solution, as the above poster has demonstrated.

So I wrote a very nice letter to them and asked them very nicely to reinstate them. They emailed me and have reinstated them and I must earn or spend within 3 months. Can't say fairer than that.

    Well played BA.

As I've got a household account I just need to find out the cheapest/easiest way for both my wife and I to earn some more each in the next 3 months.

Make sure you do. You can use their portal Gate 365 for online shopping or convert Tesco points and that will restart your clock. Use something like Award Wallet to keep tabs on expiry dates or put a note in your diary if you don't use them.

If you haven't already looked into Amex cards, you can get rewards for joining and spending and if you use the BA Amex Plat Plus and spend 10k a year, you get a 2-4-1 voucher which doubles the value of your Avios. For 200k on a 2-4-1 you would be able to search for a decent F peak redemption.
