    So i am nearing the end of my mortgage and want to pay off a lumper but i have heard its harder to get further credit (cars / credit cards etc) if you have no mortgage?

    No. You'll continue to demonstrate good credit behaviour through your existing cards and credit history.

    So go ahead and pay off that lumper.
