Faulty laptop on eBay 5th Jan 18 at 7:30 AM
I bought a "new - ex display" laptop on ebay in November, paying with PayPal. The seller seemed to be a reputable limited company.

There are several issues with it:
    • cannot register the manufacturers warranty as apparently someone else has already done this (suggests it was used more than ex-display)
    • fan is incredibly noisy, it runs constantly regardless of CPU load
    • DVD burner fails to burn (and subsequently bricks) every CD I have tried to burn after making an horrendous noise
The seller isn't replying to me on eBay, but they are still trading. I paid by credit card, but understand this protection is effectively lost when using PayPal.

Can anyone suggest what I should do next?

When did these issues present themselves. Neither Paypal or eBay give a warranty with their buyer protection, but if the DVD burner failed on first use (let's say) it would be covered.

EBay offers a 30 day money back guarantee on faulty goods. Paypal offers 180 days.

If you feel the item is SNAD (significantly not as described - as per my example above) then you should open a SNAD on Paypal.

You might also ask the board guide to move this post to the eBay board.
