Carers allowance and universal credit carers element 4th Jan 18 at 5:53 PM
    Hi everyone

Could anyone explain to me the effect that carers allowance has on a UC claim as the job centre failed to explain it in any other words than itís offset/deducted.

Carers allowance is £62.70pw so £271.70 pcm

Carers element is £151.89pcm and is part of the UC payment.

If these are offset against each other there is a difference of £119.81.

So will we lose the full £151.89 on our universal credit claim, and receive £271.70 through the carers payment meaning we will be £119.81 better off than if we just recieved the carers element and hadnt applied for carers allowance?

Or will the full 271.70 be deducted from our entire UC claim?

    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to say that the full CA will be deducted.

    This is from https://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/Caring-overview-Universal-Credit
"Carer's Allowance will be taken fully into account (in other words each £1 of Carer's Allowance will reduce your Universal Credit payment by £1) when working out your Universal Credit.

The full carers allowance is deducted from the UC claim, but the carers element is added to the claim. So you are £151.89 better off than if you were not a carer.
