SMART METERS -Are they a CON ? 7th Dec 17 at 2:44 PM
    Hi
We just wondered how others consumers are managing the current pressures from Electricity supply companies to move to smart meter based systems ?

We are with 1st Utility who are offering free meters -however we feel there is a major catch !
If like us you are on a dual rate meter ie a significant saving is applied to night time usage , then the move to a smart meter so we are told necessitates moving to a daytime only rate ie the loss of the savings -which is very significant if one aims to use about 30=40% of the total electricity bill as night time rate .
This clearly is missing from all the adverts and publicity messages that so far we have seen from the companies.
Perhaps I should also mention that Gas suppliers do not cover our village and surrounding areas -so we often miss out on Dual fuel system offers from the Utility companies !
So as the No 1 consumer rights program and service, we wondered if it was worth investigating further , or even offering a few comments in future bulletins be it on the web site or as an item on the TV programme ?
OR does anyone one else have any comments re this ?

    Best wishes and Thanks

Edit your post to remove your name, address and phone number unless you want loads of junk mail and hundreds of nuisance spam phone calls.

Why dont you put this in the Energy forum instead of the LPG, Oil, slid fuel and other as it's totally irrelevent to those fuels.

And do we really need another thread on smart meters

No. I question the wisdom of the program currently, but I would not call them a con.
Maybe after Brexit, we won't need them anyway?

Many suppliers who offer Economy 7 and Economy 10 tariffs are also currently offering compatible smart meters, but others haven!!!8217;t started to do so yet. All suppliers will be able to support your current Economy 7 and 10 set up once they start rolling out the second generation of smart meters (due in coming months).

If you read this in conjunction with the MSE article on smart meters
    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/smart-meters

... then wait until SMET2 meters are available from your supplier
(....if you really still want smart meters - they are not obligatory)
