SP - Prepay meter to direct debit issue 4th Dec 17 at 8:32 PM
We moved into our first home 10 months ago, and it had prepayment gas & electric meters with Scottish Power. It was ideal from a budgeting perspective to get a feel for the cost of gas & electric at first..
I had the gas meter switched no problem.
Ive had a nightmare with the electric meter and need advice.
Our house is looped to next doors.
The subcontract company can only do the work until 6pm on weekdays.
They need me and my neighbour to be in at the same time as they need access to their property to do the work as well.
Ive told Scottish power and the subcontract company we can only be in at the same time after 6pm or on weekends.
They cant do the work after 6pm in the week or on weekends. So I'm stuck with this prepayment meter!!!

What should I do?? Am I tied in to Scottish power as they own the line??

You can switch supplier at any time, but only the supplier at the time can arrange a meter change (and so if you apply to switch supplier before the change, expect any meter switch already booked to be cancelled)

If you want to switch your electricity supply (before the meter is changed) you will have to request a PPM tarriff from the new supplier.
I'm not sure what this will achieve though. Whilst the electricity supplier needs to arrange the meter change, it will not be the supplier that carries out the work - as you say, it will be their sub-contractor, and it may well be the same sub-contractor that is used in your supply region no matter what supplier you are with.
