    Freeview recorder problem

Freeview recorder problem 29th Nov 17 at 10:03 PM
I've had a Humax HDR-FOX T2 500GB Freeview + HD Digital TV Recorder for years and have loads of recorded programmes I have yet to watch.

Out of the blue, it has stopped responding to the remote. Obviously, I put in brand new batteries, but it only responds to the "on" and "off" buttons.

There is no way to operate the machine without the remote!

I don't want to spend money on a new remote if it's the receiving end that's the problem because a new one is £28.

Are there people who mend stuff like this? Or what can I do to access my stash of un-watched and treasured programmes? If I buy a new machine is there a way to transfer the progs over?

    Thanking respondents in advance.

try a soft reset, by holding in the power button pad on front of box, for about 5-10 seconds-

should hopefully reboot, and keep recordings!

Look on eBay to see if there's a used or cheaper new remote.

We have the same recorder, it's now on it's third remote. It was the buttons on the remotes that gave trouble.

You can access the hard disk in the recorder via a network connection, the standard definition recordings are not encrypted so you can pull them off the hard disk over a network. There is a trick to removing the flag that tells the recorder the HD recordings are "standard definition" and will allow the recorder to save them non encrypted to a USB stick or across your home network, although I think you might need the remote to start that process off. Search the web, there is a forum on Humax boxes with details. It should (fingers crossed) allow you to save your recorded material.

BTW, check the remote is set to control the recorder, I am away at the moment but think the clue is the LEDs at the top...

Had a similar problem in the past with same kit
But the cause was slightly odd
Like most houses now, many remotes in the lounge
SHMBO tiyded them up, putting them in a bowl with some other items, one of these items was on top holding down one of the buttons on one of these other remotes - apparently blocking the Humax remote
    Happened twice now !

Try looking to see if there's a repair cafe in your area. Volunteers who try to fix things for a voluntary donation. They got my DVD recorder working again when I couldn't find anyone I could pay to look at it (local repair shop closed.)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Its also possible to change the remote to work on a different 'channel' so you can have multiple units in one room
Might have been accidentally changed ?

The remotes wear out before the machine usually. I went through two when I had that box installed. As someone pointed out, cheap as chips on ebay.
