    Welcome to the November NST challenge. November is probably one of my favourite months of the year - I love being all cosied up in warm clothes, all the leaves coming off the trees, the anticipation of Christmas coming up and even the dark nights, however, I know that many people dread this time of year so part of this challenge is to do with looking after your mental health.

    November is a good time to have a bit of clear out and have a bonfire. I'm not asking you to actually have a bonfire but have a look through and see if there's anything that can be ebayed or put to the charity shop. November is also bonfire night. Most local councils put on a fireworks display so if you can, go along to watch.


    November rules
    NSDs- set your own NSD target of over 12. As usual, household bills, medical expenses, budgeted travel expenses and ys items are exempt as long as that's all you spend.
    Organise - set your budgets now, pay to your debt/savings first. Organise any social things now, try and keep them low cost or free if possible. Look at your food budget, is there any savings to be made?
    Value for money - for all your purchases during November, I want you to ask yourself if you are getting value for your money. Look round for better deals, can you get it cheaper elsewhere?
    Exercise - I know the weather is getting colder and miserable but try to get outdoors for a bit each day even if just for 10 minutes. If you already do quite a lot of exercise, try something different. Go a different route when out walking/running or try a different gym class.
    Mental health - think of all the things you do to keep good mental health or strategies you have in place to combat poor mental health. As the long nights draw in, it can have an impact so try and do something daily to keep good mental health.
    Be Christmas ready - in October mothernerd encouraged us to get organised for Christmas so hopefully most of you are already pretty organised but for those you aren't (me!), start organising now. Plan who you are buying for, what you're buying and the budget. Can you add a few items of food to your weekly shop to spread the cost?
    Eat well - at this time of year, I tend to eat more stodgy food and there's always yummy snacks to be had so this month I'm going to make a conscious effort to eat better. If you already do this, pick another area to work on this month.
    Report - post daily if you can with a list of three things that you are grateful for.

    I would like to join you all for November if that is okay
    I need to get my act together as the year draws to a close...
    NSDs - I'd like to aim for 12. I haven't been doing them for some time so 12 will be a real achievement.
    Organise - Going back to my bullet journal to plan the month for exercise and meal plan too. Will also declutter 2 items every day so 60 times out of the house by the end of November. I would be happy with that!
    Value for money-I am already good at this except when I am tired and that goes back to being organised!
    Exercise - I am aiming for 12 sessions at the gym. I struggle with finding the time but I pay a fortune so it will be good to achieve this goal.
    Mental health - In addition to exercising will just make sure I get enough sleep, and I will socialise at least once a week outside of work.
    Be Christmas ready -I have YS food all ready for Christmas food. i drank my Christmas fizz. I have most of my pressies. I will do a Christmas plan in my bullet journal
    Eat well I need to make sure I have fruit and veggies. I've been talking about ordering a monthly veggie box. Going to do this in November

    pay day today. Paid the CC and the savings. Put a bit more away than budgeted and try to make do with what's left. Increased my spend budget by 200 so I can start shopping for Christmas without feeling like I touch the savings for it. Will record those spend separately though to keep and eye on them. Will need mainly ingredients and containers for the HM gifts this months and blank cards. Will start keeping an eye out for deals for things the kids like

    NSDs - I went all out last month and failed miserably, so I am going for a conservative 15. Must be more organised..leading nicely on...

    Organise - My food budget is £280, a lot I know but we eat meat/fish with every meal! I also need to organise the house a little...I have piles of paperwork everywhere!

    Value for money - I think this is one area I am pretty good at but will turn it up to the max!!

    Exercise - Not so good here. I am going to aim for 20 exercise days throughout the month. I must get my weight down!

    Mental health - The darker months are a bit of a trigger for me to be a bit low so this is an area I need to focus on. I need to factor in 'me' time which I am not very good at doing, I need to go for walks in the local hills that I love but never go to!

    Be Christmas ready - I have started buying pressies already (in the sale and with vouchers), I am hoping to finish my xmas shopping this month.

    Eat well - I have been SO BAD recently..McDo breakfasts, Costa drive by....Need to get back on this but maintain pudding Friday!!

    Report - EVERY DAY!! I wasn't so good at this last month and completely lost track of everything.

    Clear out - I am a self confessed hoarder...my OH is a minimalist...he will like this challenge! I am going to set a challenge to list 10 items on ebay this month. I hate listing items on ebay so will start will a low number.

    My plan for November.

    NSDs- Will aim to do 20 NSDs for November.

    Organise – Have set my food/household budget £150. Only have one play to attend in November, already for. Plan my week with what needs doing.

    Value for money – Will have to keep an eye on spending. Not to buy things for just in case things run out.

    Exercise – Will be doing my usual walk each day when temping.

    Mental health – Try to do what is manageable each day. If having trouble sleeping to use natural/alternative remedies. Have some me time and to rest as much as I can.

    Be Christmas ready – Going to see what food I can get. Already have a few food items already in. Christmas cards already in – got them last year. Already have Christmas money for gifts in savings account, put money aside each month throughout the year. Just give money gifts to immediate family.

    Eat well – Will try my best. I can usually buy comfort food if feeling not too great when doing the food/household shopping.

    Report – Will try and do this.

    Clear out - Already have got rid loads of clutter to either charity shops or recycling centre/recycling bin in communal bin area or had to bin over the past 3 years. Will see what I can declutter in November. Will need to be careful what I actually bring into the flat.

    My aims for November:

    NSDs- It is getting near Christmas, so extra shopping will be happening. I will settle for 12, and be pleased if I can exceed this For me, all spending except for the direct debit bills counts as a 'spend', as the money leaves my purse or bank account, whatever it is!

    Organise - I no longer have any debt, and savings are direct debited monthly along with the bills. Can't think of any expensive social things that are likely to arise - we don't socialise much, and what we do tends to be low (or no) cost activities around family and friends.

    I have decided to allow £50 per week for food /household/supermarket spends, starting from Sunday (29th) when I did the week's shopping for the current week (if that makes sense). So, over the month that will equal £250. Of that, I have so far spent £73.84 on the weekend's big shop.

    Value for money - I do this anyway as a matter of course.

    Exercise - My main form of exercise is walking, which I normally do quite a bit of. However, I have been ill this month and it has tailed off, so must get back on it!

    Mental health - Make sure I get exercise and fresh air, eat well, get enough sleep and avoid alcohol most of the time.

    Be Christmas ready - I have already made the Christmas mincemeat (which we like, so make a big batch once a year, enough to have some in stock throughout the year). This coming month I will make Christmas puddings, which I am not bothered about, but are a bit of a family tradition. Our family do a secret santa for all adults, whereby we each buy a decent present for one person. My adult children came up with this idea some years ago, and although I was unsure at first, as it seemed odd not to buy my kids Christmas presents, it works well and is pretty stress free . Children are exempt from this arrangement of course, and get lots of presents!

    Eat well - We eat pretty well, as I always cook from scratch. Less cake is probably in order though

    Report - I will try to post daily with a list of three things that I am grateful for.

    Kids went guising today and that's the sweetie cupboard replenished. Also made a nice katsu curry fake away for dinner.

    Found another money saving trick in the kitchen that i for some reason not thought of before. My spare spring onions and fresh ginger always end up going limp in the fridge as i rarely use them. So chopped them today and froze them. Need to do something similar with my chilies that i harvested this year. Apparently they freeze well whole and are then easy to grate straight from frozen.

    Hopefully now SFDs till Friday at least

    Finally got round to doing my budgets, saved slightly more than planned which Im pleased about. I haven't left a lot to live off but think its doable , definately.

    Looked at next years budgets feeling really happy with them. Paid for 2 weekends away with thr kids out of this years budgets which is awesome and our family holiday / xmas will be budgeted for monthly as per usual as well as emergency fund and house saving.

    Lovely night trick or treating - enough sweets to last a good while at least.

    Away this wkend visiting family but hoping for a NSD tomorrow & thurs.

    So, it's the 1st of November and we can smash this! (Although it's my birthday today and I'm going to my favourite shop, so I'll be leaving the smashing for today...)

    NSDs- I will set this at 12. I'm not very good at including days when I go on the bus, because it's quite expensive and I wouldn't want to do it every day. Plus, with it being my main present buying month I like to grab the bargains when I see them.

    Organise - my budgets for most things are set. I'm going to stick with £200 for groceries and £150 for petrol. My entertainment budget for our pay month has already been blown due to DS's party, so I'm going to ignore that one this month as there's still things to sort. I will do it as cheap as I can though! We have standing orders and direct debits set up for our debts and savings, and the exact amount to cover all our bills goes into a different account, so we're sorted for that. It's my birthday today so most of my eating will be covered by my mum! DH and I are going away in a couple of weeks and I will find somewhere to eat that we can use up some Tesco vouchers for.

    Value for money - I do usually do this, but sometimes get carried away.

    Exercise - I'm not very good at this, so will definitely aim for three or four days a week.

    Mental health - I'm really struggling with my mental health at the moment and I'm not very good at working out tactics to help, so I will be gleaning ideas from what everyone else posts. The only thing I have noticed so far is that keeping my house in order helps to keep my mind in order, so I will focus on that.

    Be Christmas ready - we're getting there. About half the gift list is purchased, and I know a couple of other things I want to get. I need to move my sewing machine back from my mum's as a few things will be HM. We won't be at home too much for Christmas, but I'll start to get a few treats in.

    Eat well - I think we mostly do this but there's always room for improvement. Might add a smoothie in more regularly just to make sure I'm getting some fruit down me.

    Report - I don't think I'll be back on today, so as early as it is, I'll have a go. I'm grateful for my beautiful necklace that I got "from my son" for my birthday (he's only one so he didn't have much involvement), it was from our holiday to Disneyland which made me feel a little sad when I opened it, for lots of reasons, but I'm glad to have it. I'm grateful for our NHS, even though they decided my birthday was a good day for me to have an appointment! And finally I'm grateful that even though November massively blows my budgets, I'm lucky to still have enough.

    Pauper Happy birthday lovely! I too find keeping my house/finances/life in order helps with my mental health. I get overwhelmed when I feel things are not in control. I keep lists for finances, jobs I need to do, christmas etc and It helps me feel on top of things.

    NSD 1/16 - I am off work today with a poorly boy so won't be going anywhere!

    Organise- going to use my time off to pack for going away this weekend & do some ironing.

    Value for money- think Im usually on top of this but will defo be double checking myself.

    Excersize- going to try walking to Tesco a lot in the next few weeks to gey YS items. Its a good 40 mins there and back will do me good snd fill my freezer, double win

    Mental health- need to concentrate on relaxing a bit more and taking it easy!

    Christmas- all sorted now except food and tree. And to order hubs main gift.

    Eat well- need to work on this, all gone out the window while LOs ill and we are all tired...

    Happy Birthday Pauper1, such a lovely post.

    I calculated my NSDs so far this year and I have achieved 72, which isn't bad considering that was my entire total for 2016. I am aiming to clear 100 before the end of the year. I have decided that if I buy Christmas stuff then as long as I don't buy anything else it will be a NSD as I have a separate Christmas budget.

    Today won't be a NSD as I need to get the train to see my Aunt today, but I will be good in all other aspects.

    NSDs- Aiming for 12 and today is 1/12
    Organise - Food Budget -£280 for whole month including the top up shopping! I am also aiming to declutter one item per day.
    Value for money - I tend to do this anyway but started using topcashback site to squeeze a bit more out. Just need to remember to use it hoping to raise £100 as I have a couple of expensive items to buy and insurances this month.
    Exercise - I will park further away from school to do the school run. Also at C.Parcs for 5 days so should manage this.
    Mental health - For me it will be letting go of household chores a bit. My DH offers to help but I just take over. Also better sleep and eating patterns.
    Be Christmas ready - The expense of Christmas spoils it! My DS is 6 on 19th so its a frantic month!! Quite organised already this year but will try to do something once a day towards the birthday/Christmas celebrations.
    Eat well - Stocked up with satsumas. Will focus abit more on this as us as a family need to eat better.
    Report - Grateful for grandparents to help with childcare in school holidays this week. Saves me a fortune!



    My debts as of today:
    MBna - £7000 5.9% moving to 0% Bcard (couldn't previously as BC min payment higher than MBna but car loan finished so have a little extra to do this)!
    T£sco credit card £6740 )%
    Overdraft £1500 - true figure although only ever shows as £790 due to being paid 4 weekly sometimes bills don't need to be paid until after my wages have gone in.


    Trying to rid the overdraft first. 50p & 20ps saved in a jar until get £10 then pay this into bank. Living off a cash budget of £20 a week once its gone its gone!

    OrganizeSo far have a threatened visit from a friend from where I use to live, bonfire night firework display at a local tennis club (much cheaper than the rugby club one we usually go to)and I need to get a move on with finding advent calendar treats for the kids, cos with 4 a day over 24 days I need to get my skates on as I don't want to have to resort to lollies

    Value for MoneyAs I was typing, Mr posh supermarket beginning with W sent some money off coupons through my door, £6 off when you spend £30, so 20% off. I will use them for the posh dairy free chocolates they do for presents, also Mr T sent me my rewards, only £8.50, but still better than nothing, and Mr S&M are sending me my loyalty vouchers this month. Everything else will be bought on the S&M credit card to boost loyalty vouchers and through a cashback site

    ExcerciseI am paying for a gym membership I did not use last month - for the first time - so I need to get back into the habit of going every day. I love it, I need to shift the weight, I don't want to stop eating - JUST get on with it!!

    Mental HealthI love this time of year, I love darkness, what the SAD people feel about winter, I feel about summer,
    I am a cave troll. But, I hate the rampant consumerism and the greed of my kids, who are not even particularly greedy, but they don't seem to THINK that people work hard to buy them things, I wish they were more considerate, I blame the parents


    Be Xmas Ready Erm, yeah, right! Ok, will give it a bash. It is hard to be captain happy xmas with a DH who refuses to engage in the whole process (I think he may have been violated by the Xmas fairy and it has coloured his life )

    Eat WellWill Endeavour to do so and also lose weight - I do not HAVE to indulge everytime the kids do

    November rules

    NSDs- Going to go for 15.

    Organise - YNAB all upto date so planning on not having to rejig anything this month. Have found meal planning and shopping to list have also really helped lately. Have a social event with girls from school for end of the month but cheapest train ticket already booked and paid for.

    Value for money - Have been quite good recently with trying to filter out the wants from the needs but always room for improvement .

    Exercise - Have lost a bit of weight recently still need to lose a bit more. Walking more but aiming to use the exercise bike more and plan some little hikes with dh to get us and the dog out the house cheaply .

    Mental health - I am supposed to be returning to uni after interrupting due to an injury but have lost all motivation and direction. I'm actually very content with my home life and am not sure I want to go back to the massive knock on effect it had on our home life. The run up to xmas is also sometimes overshadowed by bereavement anniversarys and I really want to minimise the impact of this on my mental health whilst still remembering my Mum and Dad .

    Be Christmas ready - Presents for son and dh purchased and turkey crown in the freezer . We are determined to have a mindful xmas spending time not money on people.

    Eat well - We are generally pretty good in this area but must watch the tendency to comfort eat when hibernating.

    Report - Plan to report daily .
