Starting over... 15th Oct 17 at 10:13 PM
    Hi all!

It's been a while since I've used this website and forum, largely because I've been living abroad for a few years and BOY have I missed it! For the record, there's nothing remotely like MSE in Ireland and if I was much cleverer I would have loved to have started something similar.

The reason I'm rejoining the MSE clan is because in 12 weeks time (82 days to be exact) I'm moving back to Devon And while I'm really excited, I'm also extremely nervous to be starting over. I run a successful business here in Ireland that I'm hoping to bring over (but realistically it'll take at least 12 months to get to the same level - I'm a wedding singer if anyone needs one ), and the thought of being a 30-something who is going back to live with her mother is nauseating...

Financially I have no savings and £1700 on a credit card - I've put all my money into my business, so the plan is to save as much money as I possibly can before I move. I have a lot of work coming up but my day job is also self-employed so budgeting can be difficult while I wait for invoices to be paid.

I work mostly in the afternoons and evenings so I'm on the hunt for a temp morning or night time job for the next few months, but I'm also looking online for ways to earn a bit extra. I still have my UK bank account so I'm looking at doing the gambling websites using Top Cashback (I hate gambling so stopping after the minimum bet to get the cash back won't be an issue), and I write a bit in my spare time so I might try some of the task-based websites too.

Well, I think that's it for now. Wish me luck!

I actually booked the train - less than half the time and cheaper for some reason! Just need to book the shuttle bus from the airport to the train station and that's my Christmas travel set

I'm feeling pretty miserable and just want to hide away, but I'm looking forward to my gig today. It's one of my regular nursing homes' Christmas party and it'll be the last time I see everyone there so I'll be a blubbering wreck by the end I think!

Yep, totally balled at the end of my gig!

It's been a really good work day, the gig was obviously a bit emotional (in a lovely way) and the event tonight was great - the guy who hired me to run the events this month was there and he's so pleased he's asked me if I can come back for a few weekends next December Not sure it'll be worth my while, but if my personal life is falling apart it's nice to know professionally I'm doing something right! It's made me realise that event management is definitely something I want to get back into to go alongside the singing, I just need to figure out how to incorporate it into the business moving forward. AND he wants me to invoice him straight away for all the events this month so I'll get a nice payment on Tuesday which will bring the credit card back up to pre-phone levels

    Plans for tomorrow:

    - PAD
    - NSD
    - invoice for event management work
    - Gig
    - Volunteer shift
    - Try not to get bogged down in feeling rubbish...

I can't help but feel a bit sorry for myself about how my life has turned out: I'm 32, single, childless, about to move back in with my mum with £3000 and a 10-year-old car. I know I'm moping because I got dumped but I'm really unsure of myself. I was broken earlier this year when the break up happened with the guy I changed my life for, and just when I was mending my heart, my oldest friend creates a new wound. He's wanted to be with me our entire adult lives and when he got me, he decided I wasn't good enough. I'm not falling apart like with the engagement, but I'm exhausted. Being hurt and getting back up again over and over just takes so much energy...

    - invoice for event management work Done
    - Gig Done
    - Volunteer shift Won't get done tile 11.30pm
    - Try not to get bogged down in feeling rubbish... Epic fail

I'll only get a few hours kip tomorrow morning and then I have two gigs with a few hours driving combined, so other than filling up the car, my PAD and a trip to the bank if I get time, I'm planning on doing precisely nothing productive.

Gigs, banking, refuelling all done. AND I cleaned the bathroom

Still feeling utterly rubbish but right now I'm focussing on planning my friend's baby shower and getting an early night.

    Plans for tomorrow:

    - PAD
    - Low spend day - I need to pick up a few bits from Mr T and the cinema is €6 on Tuesdays so I might go and see Paddington to cheer myself up
    - Update finances
    - Calls and emails
    - Work out
    - Start going over wedding music
    - Gig

I'll definitely get that lot done, anything extra will be a bonus!

    - Work out FAIL
    - Start going over wedding music Done
    - Gig Done

I took myself off to see Paddington this evening - it was wonderful and I sobbed until the end of the credits I'm a softie at the best of times but at the moment my tear ducts are working overtime... Had a little extra spend on ice cream which felt a bit naughty on both financial and diet fronts and I don't regret either!

Had quite a large invoice paid today so I've transferred the funds to my UK account, once it's cleared I can start working on the website

    Plans for tomorrow:

    - PAD
    - Look at ordering protective case and tripod for phone
    - NSD unless I order phone stuff
    - Invoices for next week
    - Look over checklist for event on Saturday
    - Volunteer shift
    - Gig
    - Eat well
    - Try and be nice to myself!

I've just finished watching me before you, I absolutely cried my eyes out! It is one of the saddest films I have ever seen.

I love watching weepy films! I've not seen that one, I'll check it out.

I'm feeling a bit more positive and focussed today; although it's scary, for the first time in my adult life I have nobody's happiness to consider but my own. I'm beginning to think that 2018 will be my year

    - PAD Done
    - Look at ordering protective case and tripod for phone There are so many! I'm on the hunt for recommendations, I need to get them for work so they need to be right
    - NSD unless I order phone stuff Done
    - Invoices for next week Done
    - Look over checklist for event on Saturday Done, and phone call scheduled to finalise everything on Friday
    - Volunteer shift Done
    - Gig Done
    - Eat well With the exception of four Xmas choices, done (I even avoided the biscuits at my volunteer shift!)
    - Try and be nice to myself! Work in progress, but I'm trying

I'm going to try and do something little for myself every day as self care, so yesterday was the cinema. Today I gave myself an at-home facial - I already have a steamer for singing and I'm trying to use up my lotions and potions, so I cleansed, steamed, masked, scrubbed and moisturised and now I feel baby soft haha! I need to figure out tomorrow's treat and write my to do list, of course!

    Morning

On the PAYG thing... I've got a good deal with Virgin, Sim only for about £12pm. They have various deals on so check em out... They use the EE network so coverage is very good (I've not had any issues)

Have a good day and be kind to yourself

    Hi UncannyScot and WannabeFree

I'm inclined to agree with both of you. Current plans are to have a wonderful life and work hard on the new business and then going to a certain kind of bank at the age of 35 (I'm currently 32) and taking my mother up on her offer of raising a communal child together

    - PAD Done, £29.34 on the CC
    - NSD Done
    - Banking Not done, ran out of time
    - Cancel phone contract Done
    - Search for best PAYG in UK (reception in the Westcountry can be pretty sketchy so I'm limited). Done
    - Call middle brother Done
    - Call mum Done
    - Work on wedding music Done, still more work to be done
    - sort set lists for next week Work in progress but partly done
    - Work out Done, I danced
    - Research baby showers i.e.. spend hours on Pinterest Done
    - Eat well Done
    - Gig Done
    - Find something nice to do for myself Done

So I checked out the PAYG deals, for the amount of data I need for work the cheapest I can get is Vodaphone so that's that sorted! And for being nice to myself, I arranged to see a friend tomorrow, I had a good old whinge with my flatmate, and I sent an email to one of my favourite podcasts / radio shows - I shall await with bated breath as to whether it's read out or not...

The baby shower planning is afoot! I just need people to agree on a date now. Lots of games and food and decor ideas spinning round in my head

I'm still decidedly wobbly but today's been a good day

Thinking about your late payers.... could you threaten them with an additional admin fee if they don't pay by a certain date that covers the exchange rate fees because they will have to pay in sterling rather than Euros?

I'll go down that route if I have to WTMA - with moving country I'm nervous that someone might just not pay if I pursue them more aggressively, and no single client owes enough to make it worth going to a small claims court...

    - Low spend day - I'm buying the ice cream and wine for seeing my friend, and I'll see about buying a cheap case to protect the phone until I do more research Didn't get the chance to look for a phone case, other than that done and the ice cream and wine were both half price!
    - Banking Physical banking done and monies transferred
    - Contact late payers Done, every apologised and was nice so it should all be resolved in the next 10 days
    - Speak to contact re: final details for event management work I need to meet her tomorrow
    - Keep on with wedding music Nearly there with this!
    - Look at storage options in UK Done - they're pretty limited in my area

    - See friend A bit later
    - Pack Jim jams for sleepover Just about to!

Mixed day today - my head's still wrecked from the mess of last weekend so I've arranged to speak to him Wednesday evening (we're both flat out til then, both of us being entertainers means this is the busiest time of the year for both of us).
