Is this insulation material contain asbestos 6th Oct 17 at 12:20 PM
    Hi,

Just want to have an idea on the what kind of insulation material is used in the loft of the flat I've just moved into. Is it likely to contain asbestos? I've attached a pic here.

Have heard so much about the harm of asbestos. Just want to be sure... The flat was built during 1970s if that helps.

    Many thanks.

You're probably better off posting this in the 'In my home' sub-forum, as it has nothing to do with buying and selling property.

    How would any body know.

The only way to know is to get it properly tested.

Ah, yes, sorry, I was checking this sub-forum for buying and has seen many suggestions regarding asbestos. Wasn't thinking about the forum title.. I'll re-post this there.

It looks like it might be fibreglass but the only way to be 100 sure is to get it tested.

So I should test it anyway then?

Usually insulation is placed directly down on the ceiling material with no support, so if you step on it you'll end up in the room directly below and have a nice hole in the ceiling.

I strongly suggest that if you're asking these kind of questions, you stay out of the loft and leave it to the professionals. Have it tested, and ask them about where it's safe to walk on while the tester is there.
